Yes
I'm interested to see if more people shoot RAW than JPEG or vice-versa in different situations.

I personally tried shooting RAW for a while but I just dont get any time for PP and it takes up 4 times as much space, so for me at least- its just not worth it so I dont bother.

I think I also enjoy the challenge of trying to get it right at the time rather than relying on PP afterwards, though I know its not possible all the time especially for some of you with photography careers!

I'm not completely against PP, I will still use photoshop every now and again to tweek an image, but I'm no pro!

Please state reasons other than the obvious (for PP!!!) for any choice that I may have overlooked!

I tend to shoot in jpeg but I'm trying to use RAW more when I might need more PP. I like to try and get it right in camera but I can appreciate that you can always make it a little better with some PP and RAW can certainly help you rescue certain aspects of images! :)

i used to shoot JPG but since ive started selling ive used RAW as a bit of a safety net lol. for the record i do very little PP, other than the odd crop and fill light.

doesnt take any more time to work on in LR so was a no brainer.. use it 100% of the time.

I use it 100% of the time as the thing I alter mostly is what RAW is best at: white balance, sharpness and exposure. Sometimes I'll ETTR a little bit and then reverse that in PP to get the desired result - that is more difficult to properly with JPEGs.

HDD space is relatively cheap these days so RAW all the way, you never know when you might need it!

use raw 100% of the time, it allows you to keep a 'negative' version of the image that you can go back to anytime to adjust it for different style you wish to use it in, if it be artistic, experimental or just tonal changes, it offers so much more fine tuning over jpeg.

also raw is great to 'save' a picture if it had gone wrong, and was a once only shot, its better than losing it.

Pretty much everything is RAW & Highest quality JPEG. Yes it eats memory cards at 23Mb a click, but for me the one advantage of RAW is that I can always recover a fubar! (unless I blow something!) - In the past have forgotton to change WB back to where it should be, but can be recovered, and sometimes I prefer my processing to what the Pentax thinks should happen. I guess I could always do RAW and small JPEG's to act as "contact sheets" but hey I have over 100 Gb of memory cards all over the place, and a couple of 1Tb external drives, so the only memory issues I have is the grey one between my ears!

RAW for me all the time, just find it easier.

Raw when I shoot weddings and Jpeg most other times

Raw all the time.

I always shoot in RAW because I am not good enough to shoot in JPEG. I want every bit of technology that I can have to make my picture the best it can be.

I have mentioned a friend before on this forum who is a professional photographer who would never shoot in anything other than jpeg!

Regards

Chris

I shoot RAW+JPEG for everything :)

Means a lot of work afterwards thou

Everything is now in RAW, no point in RAW+Jpeg as you can do more with the RAW file if needed and memory is cheap enough anyway...

Mostly raw for motorsport.:)

Neither.

I shoot

Started off with RAW+Jpeg Fine for convenience, but 100% RAW now I'm used to ViewNX/PS.

RAW all the time

Man I'm feeling a bit ashamed now! Need some JPEG support!!!!!

Problem is I know if I keep shooting RAW I'll still probably never use the raw file anyway- just dont have the time and whilst computer memory is cheap- CF cards arent!

Mid quality jpeg for equine events. I need fast transfer to computer and printed on site with no PP
RAW for everything else.

I shoot RAW for any "jobs" but since moving from a D60 to a D90 I use jpg for general shooting as the in camera processing is very good and highly configurable.

RAW+JPG for everything.

I don't do much PP so many uploaded pics are just resized from the camera JPGs, I like having the RAW images to fall back on if I need to, or I'm using higher ISOs.

Raw all the time, converted to DNG's.

Can you convert to DNG and then make all the adjustments as you would with a RAW file? Do you convert to DNG prior to processing?

Does anyone else convert to DNG, what are the benefits/drawbacks?

As for the original question, I shoot RAW 100% of the time.

I go RAW generally when I want to be able to display a picture later on a wall or show it to someone. So that means, weddings/portraits, birds, and landscapes are in RAW. Motorsport I'm not too interested in but the odd shots I do of things around here I do in jpeg because I don't see myself PP'ing them. Walkaround is just easier to do in JPEG as I also don't expect to do anything with them other than share with family.

I shoot Raw all the time but am considering trying out Jpg just to see if I really need to shoot Raw. I know the GF1 has a great dynamic B&W preset which I want to try.
