Edit My Images
Yes
So iv been out today and didn't notice that iv been shooting in RAW. I now cannot transfer my images to my computer. Is there a way around this??

You will be able to transfer you images across, but you will need a RAW converter to see the images.
If you have a Canon you will have DPP that came with the Camera on a CD. Not sure what, if anything Nikons or other cameras ship with.

Open the files in DPP and you should be able to either export or save them as normal .jpg images.
In all honesty though, if you are wanting to take you photos to the next level you should be shooting in RAW anyway. You will have much more data for editing purposes.

They should still copy across, are you using drag and drop or something else?

You should be able to transfer them with a card reader and a file manager. Or with a cable connection and some download software. Once transferred to the computer you can convert them to jpeg using a raw converters software. There are free ones you can use for this if you won't be doing it on a regular basis. Such as Raw Therapee and Digikam.

My computer doesn't have a cd drive which is an annoying. Wish it was as simple as connecting it through the usb cable but I need to set the wifI up on the camera then drag every photo to the computer, which doesn't support RAW

Would help if we knew which camera you have?
For Canon you can download the DPP software from their site. I expect other brands have similar options.

Canon 750d. Going to download everything now

That should be fine. DPP will give you a preview of your images as JPEGs, then you can decide what you want to do. It's a competent raw converter with post processing capabilities, although you may find that you prefer something else if you decide to explore this.

the computer should be able to see the raw files (which will probably be tagged as .cr2 iirc ) it just won't be able to open them.

you can download DPP here http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/news/digital_photo_professional_4_0_launched.do but tbh you might be better with one of the other free raw browesers converters like lightzone http://lightzoneproject.org/ (of course if you don't mind paying the daddy is lightroom which you can get as a download from adobe )

I am not sure to understand your problem!
For a computer, whatever the make I suppose, RAW or JPG makes
no difference as both are on your card and both are files. Mind you,
one is a data file and the other an image file respectively…
but files nevertheless!

most computers can't display an image from a raw file without specialist software - i think that is his issue

Do you mean displaying a preview of the RAW file?
Never encountered that on my MACs!

i suspect hes trying to use windows photo viewer - and that can't

I'm not sure it is:

I think we need a bit more information. This is one of those situations where the OP needs to help us to help him.

yes its a weird one that he has to use wifi to transfer the images -i would have expected to just put the card in a reader or use the usb cable.

The easiest prog I've come across for uploading ( after inserting card in your reader or onboard PC card reader ) is FastStone Image Viewer. Not only does it display RAW files, after it uploads them from your card , it shuffles them into dated folders by month

Say you took 100 photos on 31 December and another 100 on 1st January - after using FastStone to upload, when you navigate to wherever you want it to store photos, you'll find folders dated Dec 2015 and another dated January 2016

I found that quite useful

Also, you can edit the RAW files to a fair degree. Its not in Adobe CS5.5 league for editing ( I use CS5.5 ) but FastStone is so quick, i use nothing else to upload and if the files are not that important, i will use it to edit / PP as well

Only replying because I have a canon 750d too, I use the usb lead to transfer (never tried the wifi!) I shoot RAW but I downloaded a free add on for Windows which means I can see a preview when importing images from the camera. Once imported, the file icons then have CR2 logo, but when I open the folder in LR I can see the images again. I also just downloaded Windows photo gallery which is heaps faster for quick alterations than Lightroom on my poor old laptop and works with RAW files.

buy another card for the camera till you get a raw reader
