Hi All

I have just taken my first lot of shots as RAW files, and I am a bit lost as to how I...

a) save them as JPEG
b) transfer them into PS elements

I have downloaded the Canon Raw software, and the pictures are showing in my windows photo gallery, but when I try and drag them into PS the picture just opens in the canon software....:bang:

Could someone please help put me out of my misery!! :)

Erm..

Best way I can think to open them with Photoshop would be to right click the file. Open with.. then Adobe Photoshop CS2/3/4

If you want it to by default open all your RAW files with phtoshop. Then right click the file and click properties, and change the default opening programme to photoshop then all of your raw files will open with photoshop when you double click them

Hope That helps
Jamie

As for saving them as a JPEG file with Photoshop, you can simply (once you've edited them) File -> Save as, select your file type, which in this case is JPEG and save the file :)

What version of elements? You need the ACR installed (Adobe Camera Raw) and you are off.

Thank you Jamie - thats the way I imagine it should work as all of my previous JPEG files have done this....I will keep fiddling around...

I have always uploaded my files directly to windows photo gallery and then just dragged the image across or opened the file from photoshop .... the Raw ones just dont want to do this ...
I do feel I am being a bit thick though...so will probably have some lightbulb moment soon...???!???!??!!! :)

Version 7 - ohhhh I did not know about this .... thank you!! Where would I find it - can I download from Adobe??

Maybe you dont have the raw update installed on your copy of PS. With most cases I have been in PS recognises it's a RAW and opens but for some cameras you have to download an update from the Adobe website for the raw to open so that could be part of the problem perhaps?

What i do is run them through lightroom first then save them as a jpeg!

Photoshop does have a built in app called 'camera raw' which i've always thought opens when you try and open a raw file into Photoshop? I'm unsure about this as i've always used Lightroom first.

P.S sorry if any of this has been mentioned i've only read the OP.

..EDIT...
/then i read the last post.. now i feel dumb:(:bonk:

The Canon DPP software that came with your camera does a pretty good job. You can download the latest version from the Canon website.

I somehow took some photos recently and when I went to move them over I noticed one file was raw and the other jpeg. Think I need to have a google as I don't even know what a raw file is or why its special :bonk:
