Does anyone know a fix that will actually work for this apart from just saving raw and jpeg?

Kind Regards

Joe

You need the driver software for your particular type of raw file. Windows doesn't know how to read a RAW file for every type of camera but usually if you install the software that came with your camera it installs the appropriate driver (BTW I'm sure "driver" is not the correct term but the proper term escapes me at the moment - plugin?)

There was no software with the camera

Well you could help us and help yourself by giving us a clue what camera it is?

Assuming you're using Windows 8.x or 10 the link provided by @ChrisH above is all you need

I do apologise I thought it was just a general codec pack or something.

I have a Nikon D3500, I have been currently converting the raw files to DNG files to edit but obviously the thumbnails dont show up on windows.

Have you tried the codec from Nikon? It may work with W7

All sorted now guys I updated to windows 10 using the media tool thing thank god.

Thank you very much for all of your help

Can I ask did you install the MS app that @ChrisH mentioned in post #4 or the Nikon codecs???

Anybody who is using, or thinking of using, Windows 10 would do well tp view this
Last year, 250 security vulnerabilities were discovered and reported in Windows 7, but Microsoft was obliged to fix all the serious issues with security updates. This year, they won't. Anybody who is thinking of staying with Windows 7 would do well not to go online, and certainly shouldn't use it for things like home banking.

If you look at this guy's channel, (and this video!) his view on Windows is like an iPhone fanatic's view on Android, or an Android fanatic's view on iPhones. I tend to mistrust anyone who is too far to one extreme or the other. Windows is certainly not perfect, but neither is Linux, iOS or anything else.
