Raw files not opening in DPP?

Hi guys got a 500D for xmas and have been taking various pics. Using the same settings as my brothers 400D shooting in raw mode.

When he uploads his to the computer for the relevant editing for raw images the photos all show up fine in DPP

However when i do the same mine wont open and just show up as grey boxes with black crosses in them!?

Both his and mine are .CR2 files

Any ideas? cant get them to show or open so cant edit and processs them

You'll need to update DPP. The version that your bro is using for the 400D raw files won't support the 500D raw.

Thanks mate, how would we go about updating? I have the dpp disc that came with my 500D, could we just use that?

Would he still be able to use his 400D raw files on the updated version?

I think the answer is yes to that. The 500D won't be backward compatible but the 400D will be forward compatible - If that makes sense.

Alternatively to can update from the Canon website for free.

cheers mate, doesnt mention the 500D in the compatibility in that link only upto the 450D

I'll give the disc with the 500D a try
