Right, I have been advised to start shooting in RAW which I do not have a problem with as I can set this in the camera.

O.K. fired or a few shots to practice editing in RAW - got it so far?

How the heck do I get them from the camera to the computer to open them.

I have CS4 and elements 7 can someone tell me in pigeon English as I know it must be straight forward.

I have the photos in my windows gallery but cannot open them (I presume they are the ones with the little disc on:shrug:) Everytme I go to open one it tells me it is not the right kind of document, please what does this mean.

I know I am thick but if I don't ask I will not learn. :bang: :bang:

Have you not got Bridge?

I'm guessing your version of windows gallery needs updating anyway

if you have CS4 you should also have Bridge
it will open them and is a nice interface to photoshop

(snap squizza too fast on the keys!)

You could open them with your dpp disc supplied with the camera then import them into cs etc.

To display in your windows gallery download the canon windows codec

http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0038095.asp

To import into photoshop you need the appropriate ACR from Adobe. You will need to check the version is compatible with both your camera and the version of photoshop

It's probably because the raw file extension is not readable by you image software that you have as your default viewer.

Open them in CS4 or Elements that should work.
mick

Windows doesnt recognise RAW:bang:

did your CS4 come with Adobe bridge or do you have light room? as you can use either of these to view your RAW files and do some PP.

Or just open them individually in CS4

Hope this helps!

I suspect the RAWs shot on the 7D will not open in PSE 7. Ive just upgraded to PSE 8 for the same reason. can't comment on CS4.

I use the EOS utility to transfer the images to hte computer and then run PSE, File Open...Select the RAW.

With the camera you have a disc that has Digital Photography Profesional on it

Load that on your computer and you can see the raw images.

With CS4 just open the file as you would normally, it will open in Raw.

If not you probably need to download the latest updates from Adobe.

Voilla opened them in bridge then it took me to CS4 witht hem open now to learn what everything does.

Do you then convert them to J peg when you have finished? so as to put them on to Flickr or just leave them?

Get fastsone or use DPP which came with your camera and convert to tiff to open in CS4 then open your tiff as a RAW file in ACR.

ACR 5.6 will work with your camera and CS4 for direct import.

You'll need to save the finished image as a jpeg for use on Flickr

I save the edited pic as a TIFF, as a jpeg for my website and flickr, and as the original RAW

You must have a large hard drive LOL
Mick

Storage is preposterously cheap these days, a 1tb internal drive is about forty quid. Making do with a small drive is just silly, especially if you compare it to the cost of a camera.

I have 3 TB's in my machine and an External 1 TB .. more storage the better =]
