Rather angry film user!

Wow that was an angrey letter. Did make me giggle mind you

wow that was quite an outburst... i do understand completely, my film bodies are worthless but the film isnt :p and thats what i would want back the most

Yeah I'm never fussed carrying old film SLRs around for that reason. If someone did try and mug me, I could explain how little they are worth and how hard they'll find it to sell them.

Failing that I'd plead that I be allowed to at least wind back my film and keep that and then I'd hand over the camera.

Love it!

Nah, with old cameras you're better off beating them to the ground with it and then taking their photo to prove the superior build quality compared to modern plastic cameras.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of this - during a street photography "altercation" where someone tried to take my camera from me. I reacted by shouting at the top of my voice "Help, Help - this chap# is trying to steal my camera" whilst bringing the edge of the FED-3 down firmly and smartly upon the bridge of his nose. No prizes for guessing which came off worst.

It didn't help my appreciation of street photography however :(

# it may not have been "chap" I called him ;)

I've always thought my K1000 would cause more damage than anyone could possibly inflict on me! Let alone something like a Pentax 6x7...

In certain locations I take photos I always take my torch with me just incase I have an issue, I should mention that the torch is an all metal maglite that take 6x D Cell batteries :bat:

Is this the root cause for you hatred of people photography?

It's part of the reason why I don't enjoy street photography, certainly - I went out and tried it 3 times, all for the sake of the POTY competition last year. The first time ended in one of those irritating "section 43" conversations with a couple of PCSO's - and my insisting that they brought someone who understood the law before I would co-operate with them. The second time I had my little altercation with the "chap" above, and the third time I managed 5 minutes and half a roll of film in one location, shooting fairly covertly, until I'd got something that I could enter in the competition. After that I went home and resolved never to shoot street stuff again. :gag:

As for my Hatred of People Photography, that's quite simple, bye and large, I don't like people - I'm a bit of a misanthropic beggar at the best of times. I'm fine with individuals, and small groups, but get uncomfortable in crowds, and hate large and busy town centres.

That's some story.

Where did it happen?!

People always treat me very nicely when they see me with my TLR. No one's tried to mug me (yet).

what i want to know is why he had a firewire cable in in his camera bag if he only shoots film

lol - i once had occasion to welt some scrote in the jaw with my mamiya 645 - which he was trying to take off me at the time.

while shouting "oh I say , this awful man is trying to take my camera , someone call the constabluary, take that you bounder" (like TBY that may not be an absolutely accurate record of what i shouted - I seem to recall using more words begining with C & F  )

Ok ok ok, I'll give them back :)

I had 40k worth of kit nicked in Africa. I would like to think is paid for a water well or solar power in a village. Thats what stops the rage within.

E&L are great for kit cover :)

I hate photography

in my experience E&L are great for cover until you try to claim at which point they become a total nightmare
