Yes. About 4 years ago, I built a "rig" to enable me to take photographs of bouncing water droplets. I used a Raspberry Pi to control a valve on an upturned water bottle to enable a single water drop from a height of about 600mm into a tray below. A second control line on the Raspberry Pi was used as a remote shutter release on my camera. A third control line triggered a flash gun.
I currently have four RPi ZeroW boards set up with an RPi camera attached to each, using an OS called MotionEye. One of them has a NoIR camera mounted inside a nesting box alongside four IR LEDs. Like hunnymonster, I have this one set up to record a video file whenever the camera detects motion and dump it to my Dropbox account. Got loads of "footage" in BBC Springwatch style showing eggs, chicks and Blue Tits. Interestingly, a pair of Blue Tits have been visiting the nest box almost every day since last November - just for a look around. No doubt they will start to bring in nest material in the coming months.
