I quite like the concept of these but has anyone ever had their camera fall off because the retaining screw in the camera body has come off ?

The Rapid one has a thick rubber washer so it keeps it firmly fixed to the camera base, I don't think it would unscrew very easily.

i have the cheap ebay quick strap and that too has a nice rubber coating to help stop anything coming lose.

I made my own and use a rubber washer, never had any problems when I have used it.

Have one since some days called the 'SunSniper' used it for a whole day round the zoo with camera and 70-200mm hanging, no probs!

Has like a rubber washer around the screw to help keep it tight.

Thanks for the replies all, maybe I'll take the plunge. Is there one where the camera lies across your back ? I was sure I'd seen one somewhere.

I have left the Optech connectors on my body and loop them through the R-Strap. If the R-Strap or anything fails the Opech strap will catch it. More than likely totally unecessary but it makes me feel better.

The Black Rapid R-Strap has a lockable adjuster so you can slide the camera around your back, or front or wherever. V good straps

Same with the ebay quick straps.

I have a cheap Q strap, never comes loose, the clasp that connects feels a bit cheap, no fear of it breaking but its sharp and not well finished other than that, I can't see the rapidstap being superior.

What failed? I will probably replace the metal connector with a couple of climbing rings.

One of the clips holding the pad section to the straps, it just slipped out and the camera headed for the ground. It was only a D70 and a Tamron 17-50, so not as if it was a heavy setup...

I carry over 8 lbs with my BR strap and the screw has not moved at all. The cheapie's on ebay may be as good but for the sake of a few pounds I would not take a chance with over £5k of gear on board myself.

Spiderholster looks interesting, pricey though.

I have been considering building my own.

The Q straps are a direct rip of the R strap

Knowing the R-strap guys I'd support R-strap over Q strap

Awaiting my new R-5 to arrive

Have you looked at camera holster's, I have the rapid strap but I also bought the Spider Camera Holster http://www.spiderholster.com/# which I find more comfortable and safe.
When your carrying a bag and a camera on a strap I find it gets a bit too uncomfortable around my neck and shoulders.

I'm the safe so this could be the right solution for me. I'm definitely going to keep that system in mind, thanks tor the link!

Hi Dave, I've just bought myself a Black Rapid and I'm a bit of a belt and braces man myself so would be interested in your Optech connectors setup. Is it possible that you have a piccy of the way you have it set up and can you buy these Optech connectors seperately and where from please. Many thanks.
