Speed mode? You mean fast recycling time or for freezing the motion?

Neither, the new units have a Speed setting.

To be quite honest I don't understand why...my original skyports say they can sync up to 1/1000, but the new "speed" units say they sync to 1/160th at standard setting and up to 1/250 on "speeeeed".

Easiest way to know if your Ranger needs to be set any different is just to test it...see if you get the top and/or bottom chopped off your image at 1/250

edit - just saw in your avatar you use a 5D mkII, if thats the case I think the max sync is 1/200 anyway. Just test it at 1/200 and see if the whole frame is exposed by the flash. Pro-blem, sol-ved (in a french accent)

LOL yes they do and Ive just changed mine lol The new skyport speed lets you go to 250th. but you need to set the main unit to r2 in the menu he said lots forget to and try to use theres in speed mode, and it does not work. so its menu button twice r0 skyport off r1 normal mode r2 speed mode.

But the older skyports Quote 1/1000th in the manual, that's why I'm confused by the point of the "SPEED" mode in newer units, when "SPEED" mode is up to 1/250, which is slower than the older ones....strange

I have an older transmitter, an older receiver, and a newer "speed" receiver, just to confuse people even more, if you're using an older transmitter (the non speed model) then it syncs past 1/250 anyway, with both the older receiver and speed receiver (depending on cameras max X sync speed)

The limitation of 1/250 or 1/160 with older units is the result of focal plane shutter in your camera. Get a camera with a leaf shutter and you can go higher than the 1/250. :)

what swap my 5dmkll never lol at 250th you do see the shutter in the image only just so you have to allow to crop.

That's equally applicable to both the old and new units...

What confuses me is quoted max for old unit = 1/1000th, max for new unit in "speed" mode = 1/250th...

Doesnt seem like an upgrade to me :cuckoo:

I don't have experience with the older units, but I think that the quoted 1/1000 sec is the max it can do if your camera don't limit you to the 1/250. Which from what people wrote about skyports more was a 1/125 or 1/160. So the newer Speed version just made the skyports faster, so that they actually can achieve the 1/250.

But at 250th you do see the shutter just in the image on my 5dmkII.

I may be wrong, but I thought the max sync speed of the 5dmk2 was 1/200. This could be the reason why you're seeing the edge of the shutter at 1/250.

yes i did know that, but its very slight and if you allow for it in the image its handy to push the shutter speeds up sometimes.
