What lens would people have to cover a whole range from landscape to portrait to macro.

My idea is

50mm 1.4 love this lens
24-105 L Lens
100mm f2.8 L macro

I'd say:

24 - 70 L 2.8 and 70 - 200 L 2.8 and maybe something very wide.

However I reckon the two mentioned will get you through 99% of anything you need to do.

Is the 24-105 a bad lens?

I don't think that any of the big brands have any lenses you could call bad. Even the humble kit lens will give pretty good results.

So don't worry too much about it.

Thanks guys anymore input on this everyone?

Cheers

I use a full frame so the following would cover those requirements for me:

17-40
70-200
100 macro

Cheers,

What Macro you got?

Can I ask is it worth getting IS on the 70-200 F2.8 as it add alot of money onto it...

I have the 2.8 IS L but I uderstand that optically the non-L 100 is just as good. I find IS on the 70-200 useful at the longer end, but am quite happy shooting at 70mm without it, having got used to no IS on the 24-70.

The 24-70L is very capable at 24mm at higher apertures and sharp at 2.8 at 70mm it is also a macro lens and can focus very close. Although not on the same level as the dedicated macro lenses it's worth mentioning!! Add a 70-200 lens and you have almost every situation covered.

I went for the 24-105 in the end I like that extra reach and it going to be used outdoor most of the time anyway so should be ok aperture wise. Wanted to save the extra so i can get hopefully a

70-200 F2.8 IS MKII

Then I am happy as I do have a 50mm 1.4 for indoor

16-35L
24-70L
70-200L

All f2.8

Then 4 lenses as prime: 100 macro, 50mm, 300 or 400mm and last one super wide angle either fisheye or so wide such as 14mm or 10/12mm prime

On what body....... Full Frame or Crop?

Do you mean Lens(es) or one lens and the type of body will have a major impact as to which lens(es) you would choose.
