Sorry for being a bit :bonk: but can some explain how the ranges of Canon and Nikon cameras fit with each other.

For example, you have the Canon 400D. Then next one up would be the 40D, but then what? What is the Nikon which is closest in spec/price to the 400D?

Canon's best is the D1s III, but what is Nikon's best?

Thanks!

I think canon goes

1D MkIII
5D
40D
30D
20D
400D
350D
300D

Nikon:
D40x
D80
D300
D3

Canon:
400D
40D
5D
1D

I'd say the Nikon D40x is closest to the Canon 400D.

So...............the next one up after the 400D is the 20D............? The 40D is Canon's third best camera? I'm more confused now.

Edit: this was in reply to the second post.

The one up from the 400D is the 40D.

20D and 30D are no longer available tho there' might be a few 30Ds still knocking around.

The 40D and 5D are what Canon call semi-pro bodies, the main difference being that the 40D is a 1.6x crop and the 5D is full frame.

The 1D has several cameras in the series in different flavours but they're all Pro bodies in that they're very sturdy and weather sealed and can handle being used in far from ideal conditions.

Canon goes from the top

1DS Mk3 (Full frame 22megapixel)
1D Mk3 (1.3 Crop 10.2 megapixel)
5D (Full Frame 12 megapixel i think)
40D (1.6 crop 10.2 megapixel)
400D (1.6 crop 10 megapixel)

I may be a little off with some of those figures lol

Sorry i just posted the range i knew about. no one said the Current Selling Range. so sorry for confusion.

Jumbo, Yes, sort of.. it really depends on what you're rating the bodies for. Price? Megapixels? FPS?
