Yes
So my C3 is in the garage with a random electrical problem
The garage has diagnosed a fault alternator.

Thing is it was replaced in Feb 2025 so 14 months old at the same garage and it comes with a 2 year warranty.

Should the faulty under warrant part be fitted FOC (labour) or should I still be charged the Labour but the part be free?

its a small local independent garage,

Thoughts.

I probably wouldn't say that to them lol

If it is the alternator itself that is at fault then parts and fitting should be FOC, but I would be asking more questions such as what alternator brand was used and what are they going to replace it with, 12 months (or 14??) it quite exceptional. For example, the Jaguar XF used a Denso alternator and it was common knowldege that using a pattern one would often result in failure, but that would be after a few years and not 12 (14?) months.

It's also possible that poor installation such as belt tension being incorrect was the cause. However, if there is an electrical problem burning out the alternator, such as a faulty battery, loose or corroded battery connections, faulty ground somewhere then the replacement will soon go as well.

IMO
More complex than meets the eye, as in:-

  1. If done by a Citroen dealership both parts & labour would possibly have been covered?
  2. Do OEM parts have specific 'terms' when fitted by an independent garage, if so what do Citroen say?
  3. What terms were advised you at the time of the original repair at that independent garage?
As in many things the 'devil is in the details' ~ paperwork, paperwork & paperwork!

it wasn't an OEM it was a Lucas Remanufactured the total cost with fitting was £247 so not super expensive.
as to paperwork just a basic invoice for the replacment.

So not an original part, but a budget replacement. I would expect to have the part replaced under warranty but have to pay for fitting.

Lucas are OEM on some cars including some Honda's I've had (obviously not when recon), although I don't think they are OEM on Citreon. Lucas recons are considered decent enough, but personally an alternator isn't something I would cheap out on as it can leave you stranded.
