Ram problemo!

I've just installed an extra 8gb of g skill ram taking the total up to 16gb. I looked to see that it had registered properly but for some reason it's saying 16gb installed only 12gb usable. Now I know there is either a faulty stick or a faulty DIMM - so is there an easier way than turning on and off the pc while I re install each stick to each slot - I really can be arsed :/

What motherboard are you using?

It's on win 7 64 and the mobo is an asrock fatality 990fx

do you have 4gb assigned to onboard graphics?

edit- no onboard graphics.. i'll go with faulty sticks then if theyre 100% the same.
