Very interesting stuff, thanks, I enjoy The Life Scientific but mostly miss the live show due to work.

I remember a long time ago when I worked with video processing hardware, being told that the CIE definition of colour was "the perceptual result of light with wavelengths between 400nm and 700nm being incident upon the retina" (or similar - it was ages ago!). The trainer made a big thing out of the 'perceptual' part, and it was a bit of a lightbulb moment for me. The physical world has spectral power distributions. Colour only exists in our minds, so we all get our own unique version. I had some trouble getting my head around that.
