Who listened and what did you think of his first show?

Personally I couldn't stand it, glad they kept Tina for reading the news.

:)

Missing Chris Moyles and the team....

10 minutes in - turned off

enough said. Now looking for an alternate morning show.

:(

I hope Radio 1 haven't given Grimmy a long contract because from the 20 minutes i heard this morning I think he'll be turning off a lot of listeners. He was absolutely awful. He has no charisma about him at all. The music was dour and his voice makes you want to just snooze the radio and go back to sleep rather than waking you up for the day.

CD player / Ipod - nuff said

Though to be fair to grimmy , its hard to see how he could be worse than the oxygen theif moyles, who was about as amusing as veneral disease

i didn't hear it, but just heard the news and they were saying how nervous he was etc blah etc blah

to me on the first show come out all gun blazing, sounds like he didn't and its going to haunt him for a while to come

You speaking from experience, Pete?!

yep the experience has scarred me for life, was deeply traumatic and I will never, ever, ever...

listen to the radio one breakfast show again

Weekday mornings have gone from a party in the bedroom (!) to a dour, lifeless drone and an accent that makes you want to switch-off.

Unfortunately, I switched over to Radio 2 expecting Mr Evans and got Zoe Ball chatting to her dad and playing Elvis. :gag:

It seems that there is nothing about (without b****y adverts) to cater for the children of the 70's/80's. I automatically guessed that I was now of an age for Radio 2, but it appears that you still have to be a TOG (not the camera type) even though Sir Terry has gone.

As for Moyles, I know he was a Marmite character and I don't think he can/will crop-up anywhere else as a 'celeb', but he and the team just suited the morning show.

It's like wakening up with a hangover at 3am after the party guests have left now. :shake:

I genuinely gave it a chance.
I wanted to like it, as I refuse to listen to Radio 2, Im not that old, and cant get digital chanels in my work van.

I turned on with him having a chat with some kid on the phone, sounded like I'd accidently hacked into his mobile, then a brief interview with Justin Bloody Bieber and then some god awful music and a load of monotonous droning.
I had to turn it off, it really was some of the worst radio Ive heard in a long time, and I used to listen to our local sation a lot, which was bad.

Radio 1 have made a massive error, not only getting rid of Moyles, but replacing him with this eedget.
I give it six months before he is "moved on".

I am +1ing the suggestion to listen to christian o'connell on absolute radio. I havent listened to radio 1 in years as couldnt stand moyles and Radio 2 is so dusty it makes me think I'm ready for a flat cap. Absolute Radio in the morning is great though - the banter is amusing and the music is soo much better than Radio 1

radio 6 has a breakfast show

mind you the only sort of 'party ' moyles put me in mind of was the sort of party where you get one egotistical ****** talking so loud that no one else gets a word in edgeways and drowing out the music.

At least in real life you have the option of giving him a smack in the chops and/or a helping boot out into the rainy cold street.

Had a listen this morning, just boring, he sounds like he can't be bothered, made me feel gloomy and dull, turned it off and put smooth fm on lol

I refuse to listen to it. Up until 7am I listen to Chris Evans, but then it's over to Shaun Keveney and his bloody brilliant breakfast show on 6music.

I miss Moyles. As simple as that.

When I said in my thread about the departure of Moyles resulting in the end of the radio era for me, I meant it. I've not listened to the radio in the past week, instead now preferring to listen to my CD/Vinyl collection or music streamed via Youtube.

I know alll good things has to come to an end and nothing lasts forever, but I thought there were still a few more years left in Moyles. Besides most of us "grew up" with him and his popularity simply grew in time - like fine wine. Only he was able to sound as fresh and funny as when he first started off 15 years ago!

Grim times lie ahead for Radio 1, I reckon. Nick has some mighty big shoes to fill in, so good luck to him as he takes on the responsibility of being a DJ on the UK's - if not, the World's - most famous breakfast radio show . . . he's going to need it massively.

I turned the radio over to Radio1 managed about 3 minutes before I turned it off what a load of rubbish! Like has been said Moyles was marmite but least the show felt like it had energy to it even if sometimes he was waffling on about rubbish!

Time for either local radio or singing to myself now!

to my mind the best radio one comes on days when theres a natural disaster or terrorist attack or whatever - when they drop all the egotistical DJ waffling and messing about trying to be funny and failing and talking crap and just play music and report the news

If there was a station that adopted that formula all the time - i'd be much more likely to listen

Something tells me you would still find plenty to complain about though.

I listed to a bit of "Grimmy" in the car chugging my way home from Manchester airport. Seemingly the same bit as many others, a half asleep kid on the phone, some odd pre-recorded interview with Bieber and then some very poorly done quiz which went on forever and did seem to do much.

Saying all that it was just about entertaining enough that I could concentrate on driving and still have it on in the background and sort of follow what was going on.

I won't be putting it on in the office though....guess it is local radio or the replaying of the shows from the start on the Chris Moyles fansite.

Bloody awful!! No more Radio one for me!!

So I'm guessing you like radio 1?

Can't remember the last time I listened to radio 1. It's planet rock and radio Caroline for me these days no over inflated egos and great music as well what more could you want :-)

Absolutely

Radio died for me when that pillock got a job on radio. The vast majority of radio DJs seem to be complete air heads that witter on with the verbal equivalent of drying paint.

Planet rock is quite good. They generally just play the music.

Radio 1 hasn't been worth listening to since 1990!

Having been born in 1989 I've never heard a radio show/station worth listening to on a regular basis.

It was dire. I need a digital radio

Can't stand the boy, I'll stick to my own music collection with no news and no people talking to spoil it.

Can';t understand why people don't like Radio 2,
Chris, Bruce, Jeremey, Steve & Tim, Mayo & Co... Brill mix of stuff and some great music.
Understand if you're young, but Radio 1 is for teenagers, and the majority on here (this thread) seem a lot older than teenagers.

Totally agree, I think Radio2 is very good, but some would rather think they are cool by hanging with the young kids on R1 than listing to music they actually like.

While I'll always enjoy the music of my youth (and long before it), I love discovering new music/bands/artists, and no other station I've ever listened to plays a variety of new music like Radio 1 does!!

I suspect I'll be a Radio 1 listener till I die.....well, except for the breakfast show while "Annoying Nick" is in charge!! :gag:
