Hi everyone I'm Rachel in Derbyshire and I have joined here as I want to connect more with my dad who is a keen Photographer. I am hoping to learn all about it and to show my dad a thing or two but I know it will take time and a lot of effort. Hopefully I can get some great tips and advice here please. Thanks, Rachel xx

I'm a member of Cyclechat.

I'd ask "her" why as any reason seems beyond me. Oh well, on with life...

They certainly aren't the first and I'm sure they wont be the last.
There are many reasons, boredom, "sport." mental health issues, loneliness, and more.

I used to post on a car forum and there were people there telling some shocking porkies. I used to engage with them assuming the best rather than the worst and although some of the regulars seemed to get into heated exchanges I somehow escaped. I suppose it's possible that those living alternative lives on line saw me as not harmless and not worth the hassle to provoke. It's a difficult thing and I don't envy you and the others dealing with it.

We have had our fair share of "Walter Mitty" types over time, the blatant ones eventually trip themselves up, get called out, and fade away.
As for dealing with it, we've seen it all, and generally hand them just enough rope ...

As a wise but troubled robot said "Why should I want to make anything up? Life's bad enough as it is without wanting to invent any more of it.”

As a new member myself I have been following this thread with interest.

However, I now find it quite sad that this 'new' member was a sham.

When you can get an idea of why they joined it is easier to understand them. But he/she gave no indication of what the intentions were.

I am a Moderator of The Sky Searchers Forum (TSS) and I gave them a heads up about this person. One suggestion from another member of the Admin team suggested that they could be looking to exploit the PM system to contact members for dating / hookups / whatever connections.

Whatever the reason, he/she is now on our radar at TSS should a membership request be made, where she may be looking for help for her 'astronomer' dad
