I've already search this site and read the posts but would still like to ask for an update....

Has anyone a recommendation for a CIS system for the Epson R2400?

I'm getting fed up with the cost of Epson Cartridges and the amount that gets dumped when you do a cleaning cycle.

I'm not struck on the idea of compatible cartridges having had very bad experiences on a Canon printer but it anyone has anything to say on this subject I'd like to know.

Thanks Dave, it's on my list. Do you have personal experience with this?

I'm leaning more towards refillable cartridges since I don't have high volumes of prints to do.

Yes, Marrutt is top of my list at the moment.

Also been looking at printhead cleaning which is what sparked this off. I had a bad problem with the Photoblack which the regular cleaning cycle didn't fix but did empty a few other cartridges in the process.

So, I've been looking at the Magic Bullet - some good videos on their site about maintenance. Magic Bullet seems a little expensive but quite a number of alternatives don't seem to handle Pigment Inks.

My Epson pro 3800 uses the same ink as your R2400.

I get it from the link below and it's manufactured by 'Image Specialists (usa)'

It is among the finest inks for your machine. You will struggle to better it for quality and price.

This is a link for the refillable carts for your R2400, this is where I get my empty carts from. I have never had a problem with them. You may recognize them at a much higher price in this country.

Another vote for marrutt, I use lyson inks in there refillable carts on my epson r3000. Great colours on prints and have had no issues with blocked heads in the year I've been using them.

Thanks Kelvin.... I'll take a look at those links.

Paul...what paper are you using them on? I still have some Epson Semi Gloss Roll I need to use up.

Don't forget to bear in mind that ink from the USA is sold in 4oz bottles = 120ml.

When you are comparing prices for ink from Europe it is sold in 100ml units.

If you are buying the 9 colours for your printer that is equal to an extra 180ml !!!!

I mainly use marrutt satin and pearl paper but also use hahnemule photo rag pearl, I have had excellent results with these papers.
I also had marrutt make me custom icc profiles for each paper, I did find that their generic ones that are downloadable off the website were not great.
They offer the custom profiles for free when you buy the inks or papers so well worth getting done.

The lyson inks come in 125ml bottles and next day delivery too

Paul, The ink you are recommending is £262.33 for a set of 9x colours.

The parent company to Lyson is Nazdar in Chicago IL.

The Ink I suggested is also based in the USA and costs £64.04 for a set of 9x colours.

Surely this is a no brainier, or am I missing something?

Kelvin wow that is an incredible saving on ink, and looking into it wouldn't be surprised if the ink is from the same manufacturer.
How have you found the results to be and delivery times.
Your not missing anything that really is a no brainier, thanks for the info.

'Image Specialists' are a highly regarded company for producing fine quality ink.

The ink gives great results as do the other top ink producers.

It's the value for money that really wins, delivery is around 13 dollars and normally anything between 5-10 days.

edit:

There is also a UK company that supplies Image Specialists ink. Link below

had my R2400 fotospeed quill for about 4 years now and it has been faultless. ink is good and well priced. they also do refillable carts which I would use over a CIS system though

Hi
I've had a 2400 since they first came out and I too quickly got tired of cartridge replacement costs.
The first CIS I went in for was the Lyson system with pigment ink, nothing but trouble with blocked nozzles. Saved up again and went for the Fotospeed system using crystal dye inks - excellent results.
With any inkjet you eventually will get blockages and the only sure way to clean is the Magic Bullet. The Lyson system could block overnight and be a right sod to get clean, even with the Bullet. The Fotospeed system may block after being left for a week or more but clears after a couple of cleaning passes usually.
I also bypassed the waste ink system, taking the waste ink to a container outside of the printer body.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Dave. As it happens I ordered the Magic Bullet yesterday but I am going to try the Lyson Pigment inks.

I'm not a fan of Dye based inks although this is based upon using my Canon printer. Maybe things have changed but those dye based prints were easily damaged by water. Sure, you shouldn't let water get to them but a couple of accidents proved otherwise :'(

Pigment inks appear to be the worse for clogging but like you I've had the R2400 since it first came out and this is the first major clog up. In fact at one point I had it in storage for about 18mths and it worked fine after just one cleaning cycle.

Since it appears that pigment inks clog because of the paper dust rather than just drying up, the type of paper put through the machine may affect performance. I only use the R2400 for photo prints on Gloss or Semi-Gloss and maybe these shed less dust.
