Yes
Just heard the sad news, an inspiration to us all.

Sad to hear indeed, not so sure about the inspiration bit.

Well I think running marathons well into your 70s and even 80s to raise money for a children's hospital is inspirational.

Yup my bad, I was thinking of all the bling and tracksuits!

Sad news:thumbsdown:

He was an inspiration to many for his charity work, never fancied following his dress sense though tbh.

He certainly was a character :)

RIP

Off screen he did a lot of charity work, running 200 marathons and raising £40m over the years.
From BBC news
That's some effort, respect !!

Certainly was an icon. RIP.

Two days away from his 85th birthday. Legend in his own lunchtime.

Now then, now then :)
Another 'era' passes by.

I remember him when he was on Top of the Pops.
R.I.P Sir Jimmy

sad news, another part of my childhood gone, and yes i did write to Jim to Fix it for me

Well, he had a good innings and he did a lot of good.

If only we could all do so well.

RIP.

I remember him growing up, his TV show was epic, and made a lot of children happy, RIP Jimmy, looks like from now on, only Bob can fix it.

He did a lot of charity work for Stoke Mandeville hospital nr Aylesbury. One of life's top blokes R.I.P Jimmy.

He did a lot of good in the world, which will not forgotten, I remember him on TOTP, and Jim will fix'll, good all round guy who did lots for charity, he will be sadly missed, RIP Jimmy,

I was in the guys and gals club on radio luxemberg

RIP jim

Very sad. Thoughts with his family and friends.

Met him once in a hotel in Glencoe, a great guy.

RIP

I saw it one the news.

He lived near me and I saw him a few times...last time in a local curry house. He came in, ordered a take away and sat down talking to folk.

His sister came to my grans funeral and he sent flowers.

He's one of them people that have been there all my life.

Regards.

Now then, now then guys and gals. Didn't he do well? Huh uh uh (rattles jewellery and smokes on big fat cigar).

God Bless the legend that is Sir Jimmy Saville. The king of the track suit and how he single handedly saved British Rail with that "This Is The Age Of The Train" advert.

Apart from JS passing away it seems all of the " one off "characters have gone as well .I could mention many that I was bought up with and the radio programs that are now history.

I don't think we shall see the like again in a long time.

Realspeed

Oh bless, what a sad thing.
I also spent many an hour watching him 'fix it' for people.
There's many people who have been given a knighthood and IMO don't deserve it, but Sir Jimmy very much does deserve it.

RIP Sir JS :notworthy:

One of the true celebrities of his era and that's an incredible amount for one man to have raised for charity. It would be nice if some of today's celebrities gave back even 10% of what he did....

classic.. Jim'll Fix It was etched into my Saturday night viewing (not like we had 100's of channels to choose from though was it :D)

Jim fixed it for my mates mum one night back in the 60's... but that was nothing to do with the TV show  Good lad

Legend. Wonder what will come out about him - would love to read a biography. Hopefully some of the rumours about his dodgy side from the wierdos won't be true.....

As a kid - Jim'll Fix It was my favourite show bar none and I was lucky enough to see Jimmy Savile a few times over the years at Glen Coe.

An incredibly kind man - RIP
