What an incredilbly sad day for motorsport 19 year old Shoya Tomizawa lost control of his bike and was struck by Alex de Angelis and British rider Scott Redding at full speed during todays Moto 2 race at Missano. He was pronounced dead at hospital a short while after.

Luckily the Scott and Alex escaped with no major injuries

R.I.P Shoya, we all hope that the old fella has got a works ride for you upstairs to chase Kato....

Our thoughts are with your family and friends and the other riders involved.

Not a photo I was planning on keeping at the time, but the only one I have of Shoya.

Sad indeed, I was lucky enough to miss the crash.

Having just watched the accident its a miracle none of the other 2 riders were seriously hurt.

Not seen it and not sure if i want to, R.I.P hope he has a good bike up there

Indeed, a young promising rider :(

I guess by way of a feeble tribute, one from me from Assen:

RIP Shoya, great talent and genuine nice guy. A sad day.

Bad news indeed...! There was a couple of fatalities at the Manx in the week too. :(

R.I.P Shoya

A great future cut tragically short

awful week for the sport, last weeks GP at Daytona, the ManxGP, now this.

Shocking accident and thoughts to everyone involved.

I have to say I personally think the marshalls needed a slap.

For the benefit of those who didn't see the crash it happened on probably the fastest corner of the circuit and I'm guessing now that they were doing around 140mph.

Shoya came round the bend and lost it on the rumble strip, with nothing they could do with it Alex De Anglis and Scott Redding ran over Shoya and came off with heavy landings.

Now Alex was fine got up and walked off, but Scott although you could see he was moving looked in a bad way and after that crash you would of expected some bad injuries to be honest, Shoya was motionless on the track and the commentators even mentioned that his leathers had fallen apart.

With this the marshalls/medical staff just basically dumped them on stretchers and got them out of the way to make matters worse they then dropped the stretcher with a seriously wounded Shoya on.

I really dont understand why the race wasnt stopped and the medical staff appraise the situation fully in siyu before attempting to move Redding/Shoya.

What did the others that saw it think?

I don't really know who he is because I am a car racing fan rather than bikes but it's always sad when someone dies associated with a sport you enjoy. :(

RIP Shoya.

So sad

Just seen the incident and it was grim watching.

Horrific to see. Can't believe the race wasn't black flagged, it was clear this was way more than a fall.

I'm not sure what the 'done thing' is these days regarding stopping the race but following that crash I would have thought Scott Redding should have had more of an examination on the track before being bundled onto the stretcher and anybody that had seen Tomizawa clearly must have feared the worst.

There is a similar thread going on in the Out of Focus section at the moment concerning the marshalls and their actions.

As I said there, whichever way you look at it, it would appear the wrong course of action was chosen.

Then again, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Something tells me, given the choice again knowing what they know now, Paul Butler (Race Director) would have thrown the red without hesitation.

I don't think either decision would have made any difference to the outcome sadly, and the main issue is the tragic, all too early loss of a fine young man first and foremost, and an exciting talent.

I'm sure de Angelis and Redding didn't sleep well last night either. Those poor souls must be going through mental torture right now :shake: I know it's something I will never forget watching, and I was a lot further away from it than they were.

Should have been red flagged straight away. Race control are trying topass the buck to the guys on the corner reading the dorna press release.

I guess we'll know a little more once this is carried out!

thats the worrying part about italian law, they will try to pin this death on somebody in the same way as they did with the tragic events at imola 1994.

whilst the events after his crash were clearly handled badly with hindsight that much is clear, i very much doubt anything would have saved shoya.

A tragic loss of such a talented young man - RIP
