Yup. I was surprised to hear this this morning but then I remembered he'd had heart trouble.

My mam used to like Lily Savage but I can't say that I remember that character too clearly. I did like Paul's dog shows.

A petition to have a statue of him placed in Birkenhead, his home town, has reached 100,000. The North West town of Morecambe have a statue in memory of Eric Morecambe on the front there with Morecambe Bay as a backdrop.

There's a tribute to him on ITV 1 this evening at 8.00pm It's an hour long. 'Wild Isles' is on BBC1 (last of series) at 7.00 -8.00pm (Norfolk seals) so just fits in nicely
