Sadly we had to have Rosie our Yorkshire Terrier put to sleep today, Friday 31st August 2012 after a short illness. She was 14 years old and as faithful a dog as you could find. She is missed so much, she was a big part of our family. Right now the house feels empty.
Last Sunday we had to part with our chickens as well after we found out I was alergic to them, and this was causing chest infections, they have gone to a very good home and we will still get to see them.
This is nothing to do with photography I know, but I wanted to share this with you, we're feeling lost now. I know its only a dog, and compared to when we lost our 33 year old son to cancer 5 years ago, it doesnt compare, but right now its feeling quite raw.
Thanks for reading.

Commiseratons mate.:'( Can fully empathise with you after fourteen years with my own 'boy' who I lost over two years ago. Only just able to talk about it now without a tear...... just.

Those who say 'it's just a dog' will never know and will never understand.

Keep your chin up.

I feel your pain Trev, we went through the same thing about 3 years ago with our family springer, Kim.

Heartbreaking indeed, but time will heal that. You can but take solace in knowing that she is better off now.

Thoughts are with you.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, yes, it is painful for sure. I thought I would be strong enough when the time came... I wasnt with our last dog so why I thought this would be different I dont know. Mo, my wife and myself are both struggling atm but your comments do help. Thank you.

Not sure what to say that won't sound trite, really sorry to hear about Rosie, I know how hard it is to do what you had to do today.

With you there mate...really devastated whenever I have lost a pet...

I'm so sorry to read your news Trev, i can relate to exactly how you feel, dogs become part of a family with their own personalities and mannerisms, my old dog smartie was my best friend during my darkest days of depression in the late 80's amongst others over the years, a couple of years ago we had a beautiful blue staffy at 5 months old and lost her at 8 months due to liver failure, it was devastating even after that short time so totally understand your heartache after so long.
Best wishes
Cliff

Sorry for your loss. I understand how heartbreaking it can be. Dogs are still a part of your family and much missed. They give so much love and affection. I still miss our dog, even though we lost her a few years ago (she'd been with us 16 years).

There's no such thing as 'only a dog'

I'm honestly sorry to hear this Trev.

I lost my Springer Spaniel (same age as your lovely Rosie) just a month or so ago so I know how your feeling.

As others have already said - they are part of the family so I appreciate that you're all struggling.

Give it time and the happy memories will rise to the top.

I am really sorry to hear that Trev, I did fear the worse the day I got to your door and Rosie started barking. It must have been those bad memories of going to stroke this little dog years ago of a similar size to her but not the same breed, the bloody thing nearly took my hand off :gag: Rosie was just like her Dad, all mouth :D ;) For a dog her age and with her sight she was full of Beans. All Her noise was only for attention and for someone to play with Her, sometimes all she just wanted to do was sit on your lap :) Thoughts are with both you and Mo, if a person cares enough about an animal Trev no matter what type of pet we have, they all become part of us in either a small or big way.

R.I.P Rosie

really sorry for your loss been there myself very very sad and heart breaking
RIP Rosie and RIP your son

Gutted for you mate, my two dogs know the pecking order in our house and that's them at the top followed by the Mrs B then the goldfish with me paying for them .
Make sure you spend some time thinking about the good times you had with Rosie

I can only repeat what others have already said, Trev, RIP Rosie..xx

Know how your feeling having been through it many times myself. We have owned dogs since 1972 usually 3/4 at a time but as each one has made that one way journey its only then you realise how important they have been.

Rainbow Bridge

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks so much guys, so many kind thoughts, and thanks for the words Bazza, they are new to me and lovely to read. Thank you all.

Really sorry to hear your sad news. It's very hard letting them go, but if you really love them, you do it for their sake. We have had to make this decision too many times over the years.
The loss does become easier to bear over time and they are never forgotten as there is a special place in your heart where they will always remain.

I'm so sorry to hear your news.
Always so sad to lose a member of your family.
