plan on quitting tomorrow, will see how it goes.

saw the nurse today, and got 24hr patches, and the inhalator thingy on prescription.

let the gumpyness begin :lol:

I've tried the patches . . . they taste horrible! Don't use them :D

put a patch on this morning, and it's already fell off
going to stick another one on soon, hopefully this time it will stay on

had a couple of puff's on the inhalator, seem to be ok at the min

Could you stick a plaster over it, or some of that surgical tape to keep it on?

Good luck to you!

Best of luck to you. It aint easy.

I went smokefree on 6/04/09 used Champix tablets They can make you feel sick but do work if you fail with the patches etc give them a try Good luck
Bob

I had a damned good try, with patches and the gum.
Then . . . willpower faded and I lit a ciggie -
Opium has no power compared to the triple input of nicotine based products :)

Well this is both my wife & i going into our 4th month of not smoking,we have never tried to stop before.
We just went cold turkey,no patches or any of that rubbish,if you have the will power you will do it.
We have both been smoking a long time & heavy smokers as well,i never dreamed i would ever stop, but we both feel a lot better for it,stick with it guys.:):woot::thumbs::clap:

im hoping i can over come the will power, i could lite one up now(got 2 left from last night), sooo easy to, but trying to stop myself :bat:

Keep at it, it will work out eventually. I tried all sorts of things, gum (tasted awful), patches, hypnotism... that was weird but I still came out and lit a fag up. I came close with the inhalator things, but it was a bit like a dummy and I never had one out of my mouth. But Champix worked for me too, and it's almost two years since I had a fag.

You'll get there, I was doing 40 a day and very very rarely even think about one now. I think the hardest thing was realising that I was actually doing myself a favour by stopping rather than depriving myself of something.

Good luck!

Cheers...

with the inhalator, didn't use it much while out all day today, but since i've been home, it's near enough, not left my mouth

so far so good still....

You're a non smoker. Tear up the remaining two and bin them as you have no use for them :)

It's physiological Steve. But I know it's not easy, you really have to convince yourself that you genuinely aren't depriving yourself of something you like but that you're actually doing yourself a huge favour. If it's any help I'll give you a run down on how I stopped, but I used the tablets so it might not help you right now.

Don't worry... we're on your side!

I gave up 30 years ago. Light smoker - under 10 per day, but it took many attempts. Then went through 10 years of occasional nightmares on the same recurrent theme. Used to wake up in fright thinking I had started smoking again.

I have, but not even opened yet, a personal hypnosis CD.
When I can eventually give it 100%, I'll be using it.
It's personally tailored to my lifestlye with family history built in for, hopefully, added impact.
If you need this type of help the website is www.personalhypnosis4u.co.uk

Best of luck!

I tried to give up many times - tried cutting down, gum, all sorts of things. Finally managed it by keeping the money I saved every day in a jar so I could see the pile growing. At the time it was £2.50 (that increase was the final straw!) so the pile didn't grow very fast BUT it was worth doing, so imagine what it's like now fags are around a fiver a pack. Best to save in coins rather than notes - the pile seems to grow faster that way.

Of course, the other way to do it is to visit hospitals and see some patients suffering from smoking related illnesses... Not just cancer but heart problems, strokes, amputations - scare yourself out of the habit.

Hows it going Ste L hope you are still off them I know its tough but you can do it
Bob

Quitting smoking is easy.
I've done it 32 times :D

Good luck mate. I've given up giving up now :'(

Allen Carr - easy... honestly, for those of you who haven't tried his book, give it a shot - it only costs as much as a 20 pack anyway.

I think that's the problem. If you really want to give up you should do it immediately.

I beg to differ. You need to set yourself a date and stick to it. It gives you something to focus on and gives you time to adjust your thinking to be 'after xxxx date, I will be a non-smoker'.

I was a heavy smoker for a long long time. I've now been 5 years without and haven't missed it at all. Didn't use anything other than willpower.

Stick with it.....you can do it!

First time I tried the Allen Carr book, it worked really well... for about two weeks. Then I fell off the wagon. THEN I went back to the book, and the transparent psychology of the whole thing led to a back garden book-burnin'.

When I last tried quitting I used the clear patches and they dont stick very well so it was loads of medical tape over the edges to keep them on! Keeps them on OK but taking them off can remove a few hairs

I had the same problem - two minutes and the area under and around the patch went red and sweaty with the result that it fell off... if you have the Niquitin Thinflex patches, which I think are the flesh coloured ones, you need to get the Niquitin Clear, or vice versa... worked a treat for me. Never fell off at all... sticking them down with tape, plasters, etc, is a waste of time, as they have to be adhered to your skin for the dose to be delivered, not hovering over it with the edges stuck down...

ahh forgot about this thread :cuckoo:

yea, 4 days and counting so far
not feeling too bad, dont know what to do with myself at the min, used to being sat at the comp with a fag in the hand

constantly got the inhalator in my mouth most of the time when im not working too, so will need to work on that too, once im further along with no cig's

Good luck and stick with it.

5 years and counting here.

Try to get used to doing something else at the times you would normally smoke - to take your mind off it.

I also put the money I would otherwise have spent in a jam jar. Within 6 months I'd spent £1,000 on a laptop with the proceeds.

Good luck with it though.

Steve.

what Carmac said is right, after going through it all with the nurse at my doctor's, she said, set a date and stick to it.
she originally said, to wait until the weekend's over and start on the monday, but i said i wanted to quid asap, so started the day after, i saw her.

cheers, dont think i've got the will power, but the main thing thats keeping me going is, the money im saving, well and the fact im skint, new camera this month, and been on the sick for 3 week's do going to have a crap wage next month, and need all the money i can get as im at the F1 :bang:

Proud of you! Keep it up. I like to think if I could manage 24 hours, I'd be a non smoker.
I once went 16 hours . . . then I went insane :D

i've got the pink 24hr patches, all stayed on fine apart from the first one, not too sure why it didnt stick, but other's have stayed on, untill removed so far, so it's all good at the min

nice one, keep it up

been smoking about 11 or 12 years now, but not got the will power, so any help i can get is good, be it patches or what not as long as it help's me

will start saving the cash, after this month, stick it ina jar and watch it grow, i guess that would help, seeing it mount up, hopefully get to 5+ years like yourself.

i was the same, tried going cold turkey load's of times, just never worked..
im glad i asked the nurse, about it, while having some stitches removed

If you can, try to stick to your usual routine (whatever that is). When I stopped, the girl I worked with stopped at the same time. We still used to go outside for our 'cig breaks' but would take a cuppa instead. Same at home, where I used to go outside for a smoke, I'd take a drink instead and just stand outside for that few minutes. Even when the girl at work started again after a couple of weeks, I still went for my 'cuppa break' while she had a 'cig break'.

Keep it up, you can do it!

throw away the patches and buy this

:agree:

After many attempts at stopping I read that book and have never smoked since. That was 14 years ago. I think most significantly, I have never wanted to smoke again or ever missed it even once. That's the power of Alan Carr's method
