Hi

Going to replace my tiny 14'' Dell monitor. Because of location only looking for 18.5 to 19''.

Basically having trouble, even at this size in finding screens that are not full screen.

So my question is, if I am going to use my monitor for occasional editing on Lightroom is a full screen a bad idea?

Really not looking to spend too much as this monitor that came with my computer is fine apart from the size.

Any help on this or reccomendations for a good budget screen would be much appreciated.

Regards

Brian

Yes sorry I mean wide screen. Is wide screen problematic for photo editing?

Thanks for your reply

on the contrary... keep a web browser open on the left, photo edit on the right!

Don't sling your 14" monitor, if you have dual vga outputs (two places to plug your monitor in to the graphics card) you can use two at once... on the photo edit and one for file browsing.... on second thoughts, you're limited to space so maybe that won't work!

Widescreen is the more common format now, and there's no real issues with using it for photo editing

Widescreen is ideal for Lightroom. You get a lot more real estate to work with.

Thank you guys my mind is rested. It's going to be like moving from a bed sit to a mansion.

Be warned that if you try this-the lack of space will instantly annoy the hell out of you...
Desktop real estate is one hell of an addictive thing *Sigh*
I ended up with 3 23" widescreens and a 42" HD panel plugged into my PC.
The wife doesnt like me much.. :D

(I was also reluctant to go widescreen at first-but dont worry...You will love it :) )

As above, widescreen is good for photo editing.

May want to consider bigger than 19" as the price difference will be minimal.

I would suggest 22" upwards

Job done. Went looking round the West End yesterday hoping to see a selection and most stores only had a samsung going for around £170-180.

So took a chance with what Maplin had out the back and very happy with my hunch. A great looking and performing 21.5 monitor for just under £130.

Pics look great and working with LR after using my trusty 14'' is bliss.

Widescreen is lovely :)
I've got a 22" one with 1680x1050 resolution, and editing in photoshop CS3 is fantastic. You can see photos at a decent size and still have space to the right for the layers/actions/navigator palettes.

I'd really like a 1920x1080 (or 1200) screen, but this one does me fine for now!

My Dell 24" is 1920x1200 and it is quite superb for use with Lightroom etc.

However, There's a lot to be said for squarer screens if what you do mainly is web browsing and office tasks.

A typical 19" widescreen monitor might only be 768 pixels high, whereas a non-widescreen will often be 1024px high. You'll do a lot more vertical scrolling on the former, and when it comes to web pages, you'll only be seeing spacer at the sides of a lot of sites anyway. (Most web designers make their sites about 950px wide these days)
