Yes
I know that a UV filter can serve as useful protection for a lens, but does it do anything at all to improve image quality though?
Thanks!

Not much, if anything with digital. It had a use in the film days in cutting through haze and so on particularly at high altitudes. But sensors dont react to uv light in the same way that film did (does).

Quite the opposite, they CAN degrade the quality and I got rid of mine after a particularly bad experience where I nearly got rid of a perfectly good lens. I just use lens hoods and caps now :)

is it better to use a protector glass than a UV filter - will that cause less impact on the image
