this is for the MVH400AH tripod head. trying to get a plate for this size head???? no way
I ordered one ,it is only china that seems to have them.
Just had one delivered and did it fit?no
had to modify it as too expensive postage to send back/ so ground down the side and base, now it fits.

I'm intrigued, as this just looks like standard Manfrotto camera plate to me I assume I'm missing something?

there are different size plates depending on the manfrotto tripod head. The MVH 400 AH is one of the smaller ones because it goes with the Manfrotto befreelive travel tripod. So why this particular tripod? it comes with a ball head built in.

this makes life so much easier to level up a camera than raising/lowering tripod legs. Just getting the head alone doesn't have this ball head.

for my PanasonicHC.X1500 camcorder
I have a Blitzmax bluetooth dongal for use with blue tooth headphone so I am not tethered to the camcorder. The other is a zoom /stop/start control to help making a smooth video recording with no shake

To answer Box Brownie there is a good reason for not getting that one and that is a question of lengthP1002010.JPG
Let me try and explain.
When you have a camcorder (same with a camera and long lens) it all comes down to a question of balance. Put it too far forward on a tripod head or too far back one is always trying to counteract . With a longer plate allows that bit extra to use to get balanced correct. Just the same if a change from a long to short lens would make the balance out. with it set up properly it only need the lightest of touches to manipulate instead of hanging on tight.
Admittedly this one that came was not as described and I post the same to the supplier, but have made to fit

From what I looked up in different places the 501 plate is not suitable for the 400 version

Thanks for the explanation, I understand exactly what you mean in regard to being able 'balance' the positioning/CoG.

In regard to Manfrotto Spares.
I found them very helpful a few years back when I needed suitable washers for my very old monopod.
NB as they are local I went down there and collected my order.

I suggest that you contact them (used to be a single individual owns/operates the business) and explain what you need and fingers crossed he may be able to supply a suitable plate of the length to suit.

I wasn't intrigued by the tripod choice, just on why you were struggling to find a plate. I agree that the longer plate is more useful for balancing the camera, but the Manfrotto video plates are an industry standard, not only used by Manfrotto, and should be easy to find

The plate listed for your 400 series head at Manfrotto as @Box Brownie suggested is the "501PL" and the plate for 500 series heads is the "501PLONG".

However, the compatibility chart at Manfrotto suggests that the older 500PLONG doesn't fit your head and it needs the 501PLONG or a 504PLong

The 501PLong is in stock at Wex, but at twice the price of the 500PLONG.

Can you post the sizes of the one you want? I've got a few "arca swiss" qr plates here that I've bougt o ver the years t that are not arca swiss compatable I might have something the right size knocking about.

The one I bought was £9.72, a bit different for the wex link of £79.00.

thank you so much for the offer. I now have what I was after so no longer needed

And that is with a reduction ! But I think we can assume it will fit, and it's in stock and available.

All I'll say is that Dad had a Chinesium Manfrotto clone plate which literally crumbled under stress. Luckily, he was holding the kit so it didn't crash to the floor.

Not heard that I recall such a catastrophic failure though @realspeed does say he had to grind his one to make it fit. No doubt a lot of stuff comes out of China, even iPhones, so quality does exist but with small accessories it is clearly buyer beware as to the quality and any recourse should there be a problem!

It was a 200PL clone that failed. Luckily, I was there and had a genuine Manfrotto plate in my bag. The plate and tripod came as part of a kit with the large binoculars that were atop it. IIRC, the company sent him a replacement plate which went in the bin rather than risking it.

I think I'd rather trust Blu Tack over Chinesium. I've seen these plates break too. :runaway:

Find a second-hand Manfrotto one on the Evil Bay. It'll cost you more, but will be cheaper than a new camera . . .

Never had one broke yet, and I can't see how the can unless overtightening or misuse or something , I wonder what caused yours to break
Nod quote "All I'll say is that Dad had a Chinesium Manfrotto clone plate which literally crumbled under stress. Luckily, he was holding the kit so it didn't crash to the floor" unquote . looks more to me like misuse, what on earth was you dad trying to do with it?

Fit it to the QR receiver. It literally crumbled. The lever to fix it isn't long enough for an 80 year old (or even a 50 year old!) to tighten it that much. You could ask Dad yourself but he's been dead 15 years.

Wot you on about? There is no lever on the manfrotto befreelive tripod head. The plate sides in and held with a screw clamp. It is clearly shown in the video

I was talking about a knock off Manfrotto plate rather than a specific model number. I don't click on your clickbait links.

You rightfully have your own opinions , May I respectively point out that in my original post I specified a particular plate. In my post 4 it clearly shows a screw type clamp. In your posts no18 your talking about some other item of which I have litle or no knowledge about. I have no doubt regarding the item you refer to is correct in what you posted.

What is clickbait? All my videos I put up are for other to look at, or not, and also for a reminder of times gone by for myself. Some of my overseas videos may be of interest to those considering visiting, same as I look at others of places I would like to go to.

Of the 342 videos on my channel a few have shown interest in most which is ok with me. Only one has been seen with
197,683 views . also only 350 subscribers so hardly after whatever you called clickbait, but if that is what you wish to call it in your own terms then carry on.
