Hi folks,

As above because I want to be sure, can a Speedlite 580EX mounted on a 6D fire a 430EX ll mounted remotely?

I'm moving to a Canon 6D from a 60D and had the option to use the 430EX ll off camera which I will now lose I've looked at the wireless triggers and even the ETTL Yongnuo is around £50. I'm starting to think I might be better to buy another flash instead but was wondering if I would get away with using the version one of the 580 mounted on the body to fire the second flash.

Thanks

Stevie

Yes, but given the limitations of the canon optical system compared to the new radio ettl triggers like the 622c, then I would consider moving straight to that.

EXII Canon flashes work best with the 622c's, so don't bother purchasing a mkI Canon flash.

If you want to stay with the optical system as you know it, a YN ST E2 is the cheapest option.
Other options, optical:
550ex or 580ex I will control off camera speedlights, but you can't use the camera menu system, you have to use the flashguns controls. 580 exII or other ETTL II compatible guns will allow you to use the camera menu for control

Other options, wireless:
There are loads of wireless ettl triggers, the cheapest being the Yongnuo 622's the most expensive is the Pocketwizard flex system, with many in between,

Wireless non ettl.
as the 430 ex II has adjustable power settings, you could use fully manual triggers.
