Do you need a viewfinder hood/focusing hood to use it?

Not sure I understand Lucy. The camera comes with all that's needed to view and focus. Maybe I'm not understanding the question properly?

I suppose you could blank off the viewfinder with tape, estimate the framing and scale focus...

but why you would want to do that I'm rather less clear?

It can be used without the viewfinder hood/focusing hood but it is very difficult to view the image on the ground glass screen.

Like the other folk, I'm a bit confused by this question.

I suppose it is possible to use without a finder, but suspect you would need a black cloth (over your head) or similar.

Various finder info can be found here : http://www.btinternet.com/~g.a.patterson/mfaq/m_faq-6.html#Heading97

Mamiya bits are always available on the dreaded eBay.

Maybe you could expand your question a little ?

Being able to see the focussing screen, shielded or not, will only give you ballpark focussing, for critical focussing you need the magnifier that is built in to the wlfinder.

Well, my fiance and his mother have been trying to sell two Mamiyas for quite a while. We sold the C330s on Ebay not long ago, but when the buyer recieved it he complained that the 'focusing hood' was not with it, even though it wasn't included in the description/pictures and we'd already said we basically knew nothing about film cameras. It confused me that he said everyone knew you needed the hood in order to use it - yet when we'd had a play around with it before selling, I thought it was very easy to focus, so I hadn't even thought there was something else that needed to go over the top.

For clarification we had the camera as you can see in this picture, without the part (the hood, I assume) next to it -

It just seemed a little odd to me and I wanted to look into it.

It would be very difficult to focus accurately without the hood and magnifier and pretty well impossible out of doors in bright light.

Like CT said, it's nigh on impossible to use the C330 without the hood, although I'm pretty sure you can get an eye level finder for it. If you sold it as just the body I can't see they have reason to complain but if you sold it as the complete working camera with just no lens then I think he probably has a point.

Ah ok, so it must be because we tried it indoors. I can understand if it's an issue with using it outside rather than 'at all'.

We wrote exactly what it had and what was wrong with it, etc, in the description, and I believe we showed all of it minus the box in the photos. At no point did we mention the hood, but I don't think he should have assumed it came with it.

It did have lenses, by the way.

We're taking the waist level finder off a C330f and giving him that, if he accepts it.

Hi Ava,
If you didn't say specifically that it didn't include the hood and the pictures didn't show it missing, I would as a buyer have expected it to be there. However if the picture didn't show it, I would have been asking the question. So maybe an oversight on both sides for not being thorough. Good luck with the sale, it's a great camera.

Thanks Dougie :)

In the end, he sent us a rather mean email as we asked for the money for postage and to cover some of the cost of the waist level finder itself. We offered him this option because he claimed he couldn't find anything on Ebay. Oddly, in this email he said he'd found something cheaper than what we were asking on Ebay... and despite admitting before that the hood was not in the pictures or description, this time he claimed the item was not as described...? Well, we're refunding him £35 to cover the cost of a hood anyway.

I think when we sell the rest of these cameras we're going to have to specify nothing else comes with them, ONLY what is described. :/

Thanks Dougie :)

ONLY what is described. :/

or in the picture..

tbf, I think you've got a bit of a rough one there, it is ebay and mistakes happen we're only human.
unfortunately there are divs around that feel it is their God given right to smash you to bits in the same way they would a national camera outlet with a multi million pound turnover.
Some peeps just don't have the common sense they were born with.
And what kind of div doesn't ask where the WLFinder is anyway ?
if I buy a film back for my Bronica, when it arrives do I complain there is no camera attached to it therefore I can't use it, everybody knows the back is useless without a body...
Ooooo, blood pressure.......:boxer:, its 99% his cock-up.
Personally I would have taken the camera back and paid the return postage, put it down to a racing incident and prayed for a green blob, I wouldn't let him have the camera....no no....

:)
