Quick question about action sequences..

Hiya, my mate's done got himself some snowboarding pictures, and he was wondering if there is some software that will create action-sequences automatically?

I.e. all he'd have to do is.... something like.... define a background image, then tell the software which is pic 1/2/3/4/5/6 etc, and it'd end up something like this...

To me that just looks like 5 pictures stacked, then layer mask in PS to reveal the person...
 
um.... i don't know what it is or how its done. is that not an action sequence?... was just wondering if there's a way to do it for complete noobs? or is this stacking/layer mask pretty much the most simple way to do it?
