Going to be getting a Grey Card from Jessops tomorrow, just wondering how i use it in CS3?
Ill be shooting in RAW, do i just ask the subject to hold the card take one shot with it, then edit all the WB later in CS3?

If so what do i need to do use in CS3 to edit the WB?

Also does it matter if i use flash or not, not sure if this makes any affect or not.

Many Thanks
Matt

i might have missed the point but arn't gray cards for setting weight balance in camera?

Yes, but i was told you can if shooting RAW shoot one pic with a grey card in and then use CS3 RAW editor later to adjust the WB for all images using that grey card.

I never use one, but you're right Matt - the point is you give a shot (just one in a sequence is fine if the light doesn't change) a grey-point reference

In PS, open Levels, click on the mid dropper (the errrrr grey one!) and click it on your grey card in the shot and 'Hey Presto' WB set

If you want to do loads at a time you can in Bridge and the raw processor too I believe, but as I said - I don't do it that way

Well, you could make it easier on yourself by using the Custom/Manual White Balance function of your camera. Even my compact has that.
Not that the grey card couldn't be used well in post processing, but that way you could save yourself a bit of editing (especially if nothing else than setting the WB would be necessary) if you set the manual WB before you take your shots.

Custom manual WB, im not too sure and have heard from a friend a grey card works a treat.

Might as well pop over here matt instead of spamming up Saxp

Yeah I mentioned the Custom WB previously man, take a photo of the card (locating the card in the position where the subject is)... making sure it fills most of the frame. Then go into your camera settings and select 'Custom WB'. Then you'll be presented by your review screen, so find the shot of the card. Select it, then select CustomWB from you White Balance Presets and you're ready to rumble.

Personally I've found discrepancies between the CustomWB value for the camera and LR... Just for ease I use LR as it's near enough an instant tweak. So I spend less time fiddling during the shoot, if you're renting a studio - time is money.

You are absolutly correct and all you do is make sure that the grey card is in one pic and then use that as the White balance stting for the rest (in CS3)

For on camera, well I know how to set it on an awsome NIKON! but sorry no help for them canon thingy's

Thank you MrSayer, ill more than likely shoot it and then edit in LR so i dont fiddle about wasting time.
Glad to see you on here, lots of friendly advice. Now get posting!
