Hello, just a quick one, i have acquired an OM10 which will hopefully be arriving in the post soon (providing royal mail can get their act together, but thats a story for another day) it came with a nice carry case but no lens. i'm browsing through rockycameras at lenses and theres alsorts on there, i'm assuming i just want an OM fit lens, but will OM AF lenses work? (obviously without the AF fit) or even the OM PF?

another question i have is, i'm looking at M42 to OM adapters, i know i don't want a 4/3 ones but some are listed as fitting for cameras such as the E520, would this be sufficient? if i can't find any reasonably priced primes for the olympus i wouldn't mind fitting some other lenses i have for my zenit :)

i'm sorry for being a n00b but this is the first time i've dabbled with anything olympus, canon and nikon i can just about work out but this is all new to me!

thanks in advance :)

I don't think you can use a M42 to OM mount adapter, but you can use a Tamron adapter for their lenses...anyway plenty of other makes of lenses other than the more expensive Olympus ones to select. e.g. Vivitar 28mm f2.8.
Oh buy the Zuiko 50mm lens as they are very cheap and sharp.

No and No, the PF lenses have no manual focus whatsover, though it will physically fit the camera, you just won't be able to focus it.

4/3 is a very different mount, and M42 to OM is not available.

Olympus always aimed for compact products, so the range of fast glass is limited, and incredibly expensive now as it's rare, it is incredibly good though.

Ahhhhh well it was worth a shot, I try and use my helios with everything I love it so much  I've got my eye on a zuiko 50mm at the moment so it looks like that'll be a purchase, I need to justify the camera to the missus somehow, I can't even use the thing yet  ive got no problem spending abit more if the Olympus glass is worth it :)

Thanks for the replies guys, its much appreciated :)

The PF lenses were designed for the OM101 if I recall.. And that was the only body they fitted... It was their first toe in the water test of an AF style system that didn't really take off..

OM101 wasn't autofocus, it was power focus, you twiddled a dial much like the zoom on a compact P&S and it focussed. Horrid plastic thing it was with a weird tunnel vision viewfinder.

The OM30 could do autofocus - There weren't many AF lenses, In fact I can only think of the 35-70mm which had a whopping great battery pack attached to it to run the focus motor! Wasn't a bad camera, and gave you AF confirm with manual lenses. On off switch was in a stupid position though, I sold mine because It was forever switched on in the bag and draining batteries!

Anyway, yes Zuiko glass is worth it.

:agree:

I have that same lens here... It's a very nice bit of glass but the AF is a real pain in the rear to operate - especially if the light is a bit low!

If I get the time, I'll take a picture of it and post it up here later.
Cheers,
Si
