Ok so I just sold my laptop on ebay - it has a graphics problem which I clearly stated in the ebay listing.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&item=250383877861

However the buyer is in Germany - I have no problem sending it to Germany and he seems to have no problem paying for the postage to there.

I have received the money in my paypal account but it is "Held" and will only get released to me when..

* I receive positive feedback from the buyer
* it's been 21 days since the payment date and I haven't received a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction being held

-----------------------------------------

I've never had this before, I guess it is to protect him from getting scammed by me which is fair enough. However, what is stopping him from just using those 21 days to molest my laptop in trying to fix the graphics problem and if he cant then he turns around and says he wants to send it back or gives me negative feedback and my money doesn't get released to me?

Everything else seems legit, this is my only hang up.

This is a new introduction by ebay/paypal and I can see why but it is going to upset a lot of people.

They said when they introduced it that it was for high value items sold by people with minimal feedback, but I first came across it buying something for £93 from somebody with 100% positive feedback.

Make sure he can read English - if he is German he may not have grasped the problem?

It's just another ebay / paypal ripoff. Nothing dodgy, just an excuse for paypal to hang onto your money for a bit longer.

I have just sent him an email making sure he understood this.

If he says yes - is there any reason I should not go ahead with this?

It's the amount of positive feedback rather than the percentage that matters, after all if you get only one piece of feedback and it's positive then you have a 100% record, get a negative for your next transaction and your rating slips to 50%......

I have to be honest as a business man I would walk away from this deal, contact the person off ebay and conduct the sale from there on in, Ok not to ebays policys but they are making some pretty stupid rules. Regards Jim

I have to be honest, ebay are really cocking things up. that said, if you do go outside of ebay you lose all security as a seller. unless of course he pays you first.

Ring Paypal and shout at them the minute you get positive feedback, as eBay's system for notifying them of this is useless. You could even try ringing them now. If you can prove you've posted it then they may release the funds. It's another eBay and Paypal scam collaberation.

It's ****ing disgusting that hey're allowed to get away with it.

Call paypal to clarify.. and read the terms/conditions through thoroughly!

ebay and paypal have screwed me over big time so I won't be using them to sell anything EVER again!!

Sold a laptop with a broken screen to some fool in scotland, he got it, claimed it kept cutting out, tampered with the thing, and sent it back in a horrendous state which I can't even sell again now, and paypal as per usual sided with the buyer, so I'm now £180 out of pocket with a completely useless laptop (which by the way works perfectly minus the screen..) not impressed with customer service, if they can call it that. And to make things worse, in order for me to get my money back, I have to send the laptop to the US and pay the postage myself of £75.. no way. Now paypal have suspended my account whilst they sort their mess out, and are holding my money until they've done so. I asked if the buyer will have any report written on him to warn others, and they said no... what a complete scam paypal are.. :(

that is a big fat warning to anyone who's planning on selling a laptop in the future.. ebay has become a playground for scammers and dodgey buyers now with their stupid new feedback rules and whatever else.. :(

Good luck with this one though, fingers crossed it's legit.

I have sold quite a few things on EBay and have a 100% feedback from 102 ratings and I had money held recently on items I sold for just £20 and £30. For one of them I got positive feedback within a couple of days so it wasn't too bad but the other buyer didn't leave feedback at all so I had to wait 21 days for my money. And paypal had the cheek to charge me a fee for the pleasure of holding my money for so long.
