I am trying to insert a small image over the top of another image. The original image has had other bits and pieces done to it, including reducing opacity. Every time I try to add this new image over the top (On a new layer) it has it's opacity already reduced :( I want it to stay as it is but it won't. Am I being thick?

Also is there an idiot proof way of making a background transparent on a complex picture? It's a tree with lots of leaves and things.

Thank you!

I have about 6 layers going on here. On this new layer, if I add the picture it is not full opacity, yet it says 100%. That's what I don't understand :(

I think what I need to do it make this image with a transparent background, but I don't know how.

Could it be that you have reduced the FILL on that layer and not opacity?

Fill is still on 100%. Combining layers lets me add full opacity now, but then using the overlay or screen does not blend with the back ground to blend it in....groan...

Can you show us your layers palette ?

It's ok, I think I've cracked it! ;-) Oooo I feel clever now. Thanks alot folks! I'll post the finished thing up if I'm brave enough when I'm done!

I cheated  I found a website that will change pics to transparencies ;-) I have finished my image, I'll post it up tomorrow so you can have a good snigger lol

This is it

A bit late now, but was the image you copied in at a reduced opacity at the source (before you copied)? And check the layer blend mode is 'normal'.
As for deleting the background, the eraser tool will work, but layer masks are much better.
