1. Have you ever participated in a photography workshop, course or holiday-not a family holiday taking pics! ?
If so, who with and what was the subject?

2. Have you studied photography formally, ie at school, college etc?

3. Are you influenced/inspired/motivated by any particular photographer?
If so who?

4. Have you ever visited a photography exhibition?
Again who?

5. Do you buy photography books - either technical or 'art' types books of other photographers work?

6. Have you ever used a film camera?

7. What is your main interest in photography?

Anything else you can tell me about how you learn/practice/enjoy your photography would be just as interesting.

Cheers,

7. Wildlife currently, but I'm interested in all sorts.

1. Nope

2. Yes: A Level at college but found it to be useless for anything other than how to explain "artistic merriment".

3. I get inspired by quite a lot of people on TP, Flickr and other places. But someone who has inspired me the most is Gary Newman and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

4. Have you ever visited a photography exhibition?
A couple: Martin Parr, local camera clubs and my old college held on for graduates.

5. I don't often but their often more along the arty lines however I do have a couple technical books I bought from a couple years ago when I started out.

6. Have you ever used a film camera?
Yup! And still do now and again. Started out on film and I don't think I'll ever give it. The feeling you get when you see an image developing in front of you beats everything else! However, digital is far more "convenient".

7. What is your main interest in photography?
Landscapes. I love 'em. I find it challenging and I'm by no way what I would describe as a "good" landscape photographer whatever that may be but I thoroughly enjoy it. I like portraits too but I'm useless at them!

I'm not sure if I'll be allowed to class myself as young anymore, being 26 in about 8 weeks...but here goes:

1. No, never done a workshop actually. Never been interested in a field of photography that I thought would be useful.

2. No, but photography was a big part of my degree (I studied Architecture and Town Planning).

3. A number of photographers actually...Larry Burrows for his war work, Henri Cartier-Bresson for his use of light and shadow, Helene Binet for her stunning architectural images (she has the mind of an architect - which every architect wants to see in images of his work).

4. Yes, I went to Helene Binet (and others') Seven Projects exhibition in London about a month before I started uni...it set me up perfectly.

5. Yes, I own a couple of big coffee table type books, including Life's 100 Photos that changed the World, the BPPA's 5000 Days (it has work by friends in there) and Reuters Sport Images compendium.

6. Yes, I own a Bronica ETRSi and have film in the freezer...my dad also has a load of Nikon SLRs so I played with them from an early age, including also a russian film camera that used 110 film (which was "mine")!

7. Sports and News...hard editorial stuff.

Anything else:
Currently work for a large international press agency covering sport and news and love it...despite never having had any formal tuition or education in photography. Just goes to show there is hope for those out there who worry that they haven't got the right "credentials" or "handshake" or name to drop.

Well im 22 and got my first DSLR a year ago

1. Nope
2. Nope
3. Nope
4. Nope
5. Have purchased a few books regarding for my specific camera model and magazines etc
6. Nope
7. Anything really, not a fan of birds (just not my thing) thou.

If 24 is still considered young...

1. A few day trips with the local Flickr group if that counts.
2. No
3. I am particularly keen on Bill Brandt. Influenced by a number of people though.
4. Yes, but I forget the names of those involved...
5. Yes, technical and artistic. I also work in a library so generally have several books of photographs in the house at any one time.
6. Yes, midway through a roll of film at the moment. I must go finish it...
7. Landscape.

I'm 25, but I'm pretending that's still young in photography. (It really isn't).

1. Have you ever participated in a photography workshop, course or holiday-not a family holiday taking pics! ?
If so, who with and what was the subject?

Nope.

2. Have you studied photography formally, ie at school, college etc?

Yes. I did a diploma in Photoimaging, started out as Applied Photography (the name of the course changed about three times whilst I was studying).

Didn't learn much at all though, I did it more to meet industry people and extend my visa.

I'm going back to uni mid-year to study more photography, but focussing on the video and production side of things.

3. Are you influenced/inspired/motivated by any particular photographer?
If so who?

Not really. Though there are of course photographers I think are good, and photographers who's websites I have in my bookmarks.

4. Have you ever visited a photography exhibition?
Again who?

Yes, too many to list. Solo shows and group shows.

I've been involved in several group shows as well.

5. Do you buy photography books - either technical or 'art' types books of other photographers work?

Not often, I get given more as gifts. Mainly photojournalism showcase books. Best of Reuters, etc.

6. Have you ever used a film camera?

Yes. From 35mm to 4x5. I still have two 35mm cameras that I use occasionally.

7. What is your main interest in photography?

Documentary. Although for work, it's events.

1. and 2. Yup - currently working towards a degree.
3. Rineke Dijkstra, Alec Soth, Hellen Van Meene.
4. Yes quite a few and been also been featured in a few.
5. Yes sometimes.
6. Yes.
7. Documentary/Contemporary.

um here?

Q1- No I haven't...
Q2- yes, I'm currently studying photography at A-level. Now coming up to the exam and I'm photographing wildlife.
Q3- yes, heather angel, in her 'hay days' she travelled the world, photographed the most rarest animals, and was very good at photographing stuff that matters in the enviroment.
Q4- No.
Q5- yes, I buy both. I have technical books, which cover all areas of photography, I have a couple of heather angels books. Plus I also have some books just full of pictures - my favourite is 'the beatles on camera', plus there's a very good Book of Princess Diana's last photoshoot, both very much worth a look!
Q6- Yes. There's nothing like a good old film camera! I currently own a Canon T90, and a Olympus OM-10. Both awesome cameras.

Q7- My real passion in photography is Wildlife. I just love it. For me there's nothing like sitting in a field for a few hours watching the sunset and photographing deers, or barn owls. And when you build a special bond with particular animals who are comfortable with your presense again there's nothing quite like it, and the photo ops real pay off the patience and time put into it. I also love black+White, I'm currently doing a black and White 365. Other than wildlife I do like to vary my photography... I also do alot of landscape.

I'm 27, so I'm not young as such, but I thought I'd fill it in...

1. Have you ever participated in a photography workshop, course or holiday-not a family holiday taking pics! ?
No, I've taught myself everything, as well as talking about photography with other photographers and people who I respect.

2. Have you studied photography formally, ie at school, college etc?
No. I did GCSE Art at school, and my art teacher was a keen photographer who tried to get me to do GCSE and A Level photography. I'm not sure if doing that would have made any difference.

3. Are you influenced/inspired/motivated by any particular photographer?
I'm into a couple of different genres of photography [Railways and Sport], and would say that the railway photographers are the ones that influence me more than the sports ones. The sports ones are, like most good photographers, willing to offer any advice should I ask.
If so who? - Railways;- Paul Riley, Eric Treacy, David White, Fishbones Glover [If you get a chance, look up the last two, although David White has taken his collection offline IIRC.]

4. Have you ever visited a photography exhibition?
No.

5. Do you buy photography books - either technical or 'art' types books of other photographers work?
I normally buy books on the side of subjects that interest me, so I've been buying a few books looking at Landscape photography recently, and aim to use things learned from this in my photography.

6. Have you ever used a film camera?
Yes. It was a few years ago, an old Minolta SLR, but I got rid of it shortly afterwards.

7. What is your main interest in photography?
This time last year, I'd have said Railways, but now, its mainly Rugby with a few railway photos thrown in. I've not changed my interest, just more my priorities.

I don't know if you will class me as young (I am 28), but I did start getting into photography back with my first SLR back in 2002 (at the age of 21), and prior to that I always had a film compact camera with me, so will give you my perspective from someone who has only recently got back into it properly in the past 2 years.

1. No - unless you count travelling on my own at 18 / 19 and trying to get decent shots of where I was.

2. Yes, started a course at the age of 16 using my grandads old Practika SLR

3. Not really, though I do like to look at good photos taken by others on the net.

4. No

5. I have Alan Hedgecoe's book on Basic Photography (or whatever it is called!), and that is it.

6. It was my only medium up until 2 years ago. I occaisionally run a film through my SLR

7. Fauna, flora, landscapes, and I am starting to get into off camera flash at the moment for portraits, but need a lot more practice until I get remotely consistant (I also need a willing model, which my husband isn't, and self portraits are a nightmare!)

Depends on what you class as young!! I am 34, but thought I would reply....

1) No, but I would like to if the opportunity came up
2) No, but it is something I am thinking of doing
3) No
4) No
5) No
6) Yes - my first camera was a 110, then I had a couple of 35mm followed by an Kodak APS camera. I am now on my third Digital camera.
7) Anything!

Interesting to read all the answers so far.

I'm 26 so not really young as such but nevermind.

1. No. I would like to do one to somewhere far away like India but don't have the cash.

2. Have you studied photography formally, ie at school, college etc?
I did A-level photography back in 2000-2002. It was excellent and we had really good teachers. My friend and I really got into it and the teachers saw our genuine interest and started teaching us much more advance techniques than are required to pass the A-level. This was back in 35mm and darkroom days btw. I really learnt a lot and came away with an A grade. (hope the above doesn't sound big headed at all)

3. Cheesy though he can be I do follow Scott Kebly's blog. I really like Zack Arias's attitude of cool and laid back and he seems like a nice guy that's not too up his own backside. Various other I like as well.
I think subscribing to a blog of someone you like is a good way to keep the interest and motivation going. Seeing their new posts every day/week keeps me interested.

4. Have you ever visited a photography exhibition?
Yes loads. One of the first I visited was a joint one between Fay Godwin and some photographs associated with John Pilger. Got to meet them both in person quite by chance!
Been to lot's of exhibitions in Nottingham and other places that I can't remember right now...

5. Do you buy photography books - either technical or 'art' types books of other photographers work?
Yes. I have a few books, mainly technique books. Michael Freeman, Steve Davey are a couple I can see on my shelf right now.
I don't have many "arty" books. I do have a massive Taschen book of photographs of Berlin.

6. Have you ever used a film camera?
Yes. I used my Dad's trusty Olympus OM1 for A-level then got a Canon EOS 300.

7. What is your main interest in photography?
I am very lucky in that I get to go on quite a few holidays/trips so do quite a lot of travel and landscape stuff. I also do a lot of aviation and motorsport.
I have a nature reserve near me so I try and take a few wildlife (mainly birds) shots.

1. Have you ever participated in a photography workshop, course or holiday-not a family holiday taking pics! ?
If so, who with and what was the subject?

Nope but I have had many motorsport photographers take 5 minutes to talk me through various things.

2. Have you studied photography formally, ie at school, college etc?

Yup, coming up to the end of a 2yr National Diploma

3. Are you influenced/inspired/motivated by any particular photographer?
If so who?

Yeah, all the motorsport photographers on here. I go through a lot of the threads and get ideas etc from there :)

4. Have you ever visited a photography exhibition?
Again who?

Yeah, loads with college

5. Do you buy photography books - either technical or 'art' types books of other photographers work?

Nope but I look at some in the college libray

6. Have you ever used a film camera?

Yeah, developed my own film and used an enlarger etc.

7. What is your main interest in photography?

Motorsport :D
