Hi guys

I recently changed internet supplier and therefore have a new router. All is good apart from one thing. My Macbook keeps losing the connection to my Time Capsule.
If I unplug the ethernet cable that connects the Time Capsule to the router, the Time Capsule reappears in Airport Utility and it backs up fine. However, later in the day the connection will be lost and the TC will not be seen in Airport Utility until I unplug and re-insert the ethernet cable.
Interestingly, the TC is always visible in the Airport Utility app on my iPad

Anyone got any ideas why I am in this situation?

Cheers

Can you use your old router with the new isps log in details?

For some reason the mac laptops seem to be dreadful with a lot of wireless routers. My old imac would be rock solid but the 2008 macbook I have would drop the connection constantly. It drove me nuts.

Is the new one a netgear? They seem to cause problems as I switched to a dlink and that has been less bothersome. I'd also try and upgrade the firmware on the router.

Also make sure your Time Capsule is keeping the same ip address. Ideally you want the router set up so that it has the same one. You can also further reduce confusion by making sure that all machines have reserved ips so that they keep the same one more of the time and don't flit about.

might a coincidence? loads of networking/time capsule issues on lion.

we've had issues with lion and network storage, christ knows what they did to networking in lion.

edit - might be worth disabling IPv6 on router and devices if you have those options.

edit2 - another thing that keeps popping up is firmware updates on the TC causing issues, have you updated recently?

that might be the issue, have you updated recently? some are saying rolling it back to a previous version helped.

Ummm interesting. Airport checks weekly for updates and I don't recall the last time it installed new firmware. It certainly hasn't been changed since the router was swapped over. BTW, I binned the old router. After reconnecting MacBook and TC, it now seems to be taking an eternity "preparing backup".
It was all so wonderfully seamless before.
