I have finally been allowed back out of the office after a lot of pestering the boss, I hate being stuck inside.
Only thing is I now have to drive a van o_O
Route is lovely takes me through some really pretty forestry commission land to remote places
On my training day I commented to to girl I was with about the state of the van, it was absolutely
disgusting, she said she had cleaned it but went on hols for a week and it got filthy again :(
TBH when I went out in it n my own I really felt the need for a long shower afterwards, it stank and
well generally YUK
So asked the boss if I could take it home and give it a damn good clean out, got nearly and bin liner of rubbish out
and it now looks a smells like new, been that way for two weeks and TBH I hardly touch it now except to sweep out the
footwell which does get shingle in from gravel drives, also anyone else that uses it on my day off seems to keep it tidy too.
Two weeks and it still is nowhere near the state it was in (y)
My question is, do other drivers feel that this is your working environment so therefore it's nice to keep it smart and clean
or do you not really care about working in a tip ?

When it was my assigned van, ie more of a company car, but with a load capacity, then it was kept spotless. When I (or any of the others) drove one of the pool vans, they were basically just a midden on wheels. In fairness, it wa a little difficult keeping a transit crew bus tidy when it had 8 itinerant pylon painters living out of it (and the caravan behind) on site for weeks on end.

Suppose it depends on what the van is being used for. Delivering foodstuffs - spotless (hopefully)... Demolition workers... Probably less so.

Not a van driver but I do like to keep my work space tidy. I'm a spray painter so when it comes to dirty work places it gets on my nerves. Any dust or dirt in my paint jobs could mean starting from scratch again if it can't get rubbed down and polished out when dry.

It was only last week I was doing a full respray on a Jaguar XJ (and they are not small cars) and some pillock went and opened my spray booth door which let in load of filler dust all over the fresh paint. I went nuts lol. It was safe to say I wasn't the one to rub it all back down again for me to re spray.

Letters and parcels, so basically not really a mucky load and normally just the driver.
It is mine for the foreseeable future as things are at the moment.

Where I go, yes it can be a bit dusty at this time of year, going to be fun if we get any snow ;)

My passenger footwell doubles as my rubbish tip; discarded bits of paperwork, chocolate bar wrappers, empty drinks bottles etc. It gets emptied when I feel like it. I've always been an untidy little sod ... for as long as I can remember.

I've driven vans for 25 years, when they've been mine or my sole use I've always looked after them, kept them clean and tidy but when it's been a pool van I haven't done anything but take my rubbish with me. I've driven some manky pool vans, ones where your backside sticks to the seat and your hands stick to the steering wheel.

I've driven vans all my working life and they do get untidy from time to time but there's no excuse for having them dirty, manky or filthy. That's just plain lazy slobishness which I can't abide. A reflection on the person/s allowing the vehicle to get into such a state.

I always had a untidy van when i was a courier.

Oh i do miss driving a van!

Cab used to be kept reasonably neat and tidy and the exterior was always spotless (that's what apprentices are for!!!) Load bed depended on what stage a job was at - no point in giving it a good clear out if it was going to get a load of s#177y dust sheets in it the next day. Similarly my overalls - at least 2 sets, one for prep and dirty jobs, one for finishing. The finishing pair doubled as a colour chart!!!

We used to have a fleet of 35 vans of different body shapes and sizes...and most of the vehicles were assigned to specific guys, we were commercial/industrial cleaner and also painting/decorators and generally we found the vans on the cleaning side of business were kept cleaner than those of the painting side of the business...we the odd exception...interesting always we the best kept vans were the ones where the drivers also had permission to use the vehicle as there personal vehicle which was a few of them

Boll**ks!
No theres no excuse to sit in a pile of crap for 8 hours.
I don't drive a van but can't understand why anyone would want to sit amongst crap all day.

I got a new lorry about 2 weeks ago. As soon as I hd the chance I spent 3 hours giving it a deep clean, as it was pretty minging.

I spend at least 15 minutes every day cleaning the cab, usually a minute here and there after a drop, then sweep it out and give the dash a polish at the end of the day. My job is very dirty, but I hate having to sit in filth all day, so I like to keep the bits I can clean.

Wound me up something proper, after the deep clean, the boss installed the handfree kit and drilled a few holes in the dash.. Left plastic swarf all over the place, so had to spend another 30 minutes cleaning that up.

This. And when that bin gets full it moves to the rear footwells.

Of course it is. Lazy, slovenly gits driving about in a manky, dirty (as oppose to untidy) tip of a motor.

I never thought this would happen but...................................I totally agree with you

You know I'm mostly right all the time (nearly);)

My truck only ever got cleaned when I had the time to clean it, which wasn't very often.

I would never, ever clean the cab out on my meal breaks, if the boss wants the cab cleaning he will have to give me time to do it.

Not in my time.

I was a recovery truck driver, and had my own designated truck. My truck, tools and equipment were kept immaculate. My Boss once told me that my truck "was cleaner than a cats arse" which made me laugh.

I'm a self employed mobile car valeter. I keep the outside clean, but have to confess the cab needs a good vac. One of the problems I have is that my van is a transporter t4 which has naff all compartments for storage, which does make it quite awkward to keep tidy so it looks a little cluttered. I did get a mat for the floor which makes it feel much more cossy and I have seat covers. But to be fair I do eat my lunch in my van which doesnt help, and I'm cleaning cars all day so run out of enthusiasm for my own stuff lol

My van is my office and is a statement about me, so, yes I do try to keep it clean, at a previous job we had 15 minutes daily to wash/tidy our vans, really dirty vans resulted in a £50 fine off your bonus, quite an incentive.
