Yes
I've noticed tanker lorries have green led lights on the back of the cab. No other lorries have these. So what are they for?
My mate at work is a part time fireman, he's noticed them and doesn't know what they are for, so it can't be anything to highlight to the emergency services or at least not the fire brigade. Any ideas?

No idea.. not seen them... But (maybe its my SOH) your subject line made me laugh :)

Trailer is free from static electricity.

Also whilst asking questions of lorry drivers, why do you insisting on overtaking other lorries at 0.005mph faster than the slower vehicle, thus causing immense frustration to all car drivers?

 I hope you have no pics of your car on here:naughty:

Because most HGVs have limiters on that come in at a set max speed, (usually around 60) some are better at climbing hills than others. Have a bit of patience, getting there safe is best!

Then why not use the outside lane ?

Because granny is using it to go 0.05mph faster than the lorry in the middle lane. :D
Not around here she isn't, she'll be glued to the middle lane at 50mph with her blinkers on so she doesn't have to look out her side windows or use her door mirrors.

I asked the wagon driver I used to work with the same question, because it also gets on my tits. He said because you set cruise control at the top speed, but then with drag, hills and weight of the wagon etc you eventually catch up the wagon in front. They dont want to slow down so they overtake (which takes 6 miles and annoys everyone) and then the same thing happens behind them and the chase goes on.

Perhaps some of you are driving the wrong vehicles?

I'm scared to death of the outside lane. It always seems to be full of BMW 318 company car drivers, driving like they are in an M3 in the BTCC. Or mercedes sprinters that ride 2 inches off your bumper who must be in a desparate rush to deliver, err, stuff. ;)

Yeh, BMW drivers:annoyed:
Lets start a thread on what BMW could stand for!!
I will start with
Brainless Moronic W*****s

How many times have you got out of the car and got a shock off the door when you close it.....?

not ideal if you are holding a full hose (ooh err) of fuel :naughty:

As for overtaking at 0.00000002 mph faster....... its a boring job and we know it annoys you  but not fun when it happens while were in our own car, we need a code to let us pass

when did they change the highway code to say that if you indicate then you have the right to change lanes even if there is another car there already

we had that on the a483 yesterday, someone pulled out from behind a tractor into a queue of traffic approaching at 70..... muchos tarmac scraping from front bumpers:lol:

And before they do that, they pull out when they can easily see you are just about to overtake!

I've got no problem with this, since it is beyond their control. What you should be directing your beef at is the ********s sat in middlelane.

err.... how many dual carriageways have middle lanes? Lorries cant overtake in the outside lane on 3 lanes+ .

The best advice I was ever told was:

Your stopping distance is FAR greater than a lorries, If you want to dice with death then by all means annoy him but don't complain afterwards when he hits you.

Thus meaning, allow the guys space, they take far longer to slow down and get back up to speed, stop or even change lanes. It's far quicker, safer and less frustrating to hold back behind them and make your move rather than forcing him too.

Don't you mean less?

Our work vehicles are fitted with them down to the smallest vans (fuel saving measure apparently) if it teaches you one thing it's patience. When you can do 60mph max and mr or mrs tootle-along are doing 55 you have to be very sure you have enough space to overtake them. When you do decide to try it you can be sure god in his beamer will appear up your ar** flashing his lights at you before you make it all the way past.

/edit, one good side is, I laugh out loud when the brakes lights of all the cars round me come as they spot a detector van, I'll never be done for speeding :)

Only people who have never driven lorries moan at lorries over taking.

My lorry is set at 60, a Tescos lorry is 52. If you think Im going to stay behind him for 100 miles you got another thing coming. Just be patient. It will take you less than a minute to catch up to where you would have been If you werent stuck behind me.
Oh and flashing your lights at me just makes me go even slower...

Now I know you're making this up. If it were true then they'd need to leave a sensible size gap between themselves and the vehicle in front, surely? :naughty:

And as for speeding up, the tit I overtook this morning had no problem accellerating to try to close the gap between him and the car in front that I was aiming for, then spending 5 minutes leaning on the horn like it was my fault I had to slot into the miniscule space he'd left before hitting the oncomming car head on! :cuckoo: :bang:

The lorry to be over-taken should slow down, the over-taking lorry isn't doing anything wrong, the over-takee (word?) is...

In that case, why do the mindless morons who drive them sit 2 feet off my bumper!!! Or even worse, sitting 2 feet off another lorry where they cant even see over the roof!

You can't blame the lorry for the mindless moron behind the wheel any more than you can blame the flash car for the mindless moron driving it...

Because they're delaying having to overtake until the very last minute (well second) to avoid upsetting people in cars, who get in a huff that they're sitting behind a lorry overtaking another lorry - they can't win really.

Our road are congested and full on nobbers. I'm no lorry driver and I can't really recall a time where I've thought a lorry driver was a 'moron', they're better than 70% of the car drivers I see on the motorway.

Well said
..

No car driver ever lets you out, even if you have been indicating for 5 minutes, therfore you end up mm's away from the Tesco lorry in front before you can actually force your way out to overtake.
It takes an age to build up speed once you have backed off, so thats why lorrys are ofetn nose to tail.

Try driving a lorry for a bit and all you car drivers moaning will soon change your tune.
And another thing, I've had to go through an extended medical, an extended theory test, and extended driving test and in my job a 1 week course every 5 years on driving tankers.

I can assure you, I AM a better driver than you.

So why do you d'heads
  1. Always pull in front of us & not other cars
  2. Try & force us over on a slip road (when you want to join) but wont cross the white lines are these some invisible barrier that your car wont go over??
  3. think that you car will stop a 44ton artic when you brake infront..

Your car WONT stop a lorry from pushing you out of the way..... The trailer weighs alot more than you stupid car

So does that mean only tanker trailers have ABS and not other trailers?

They're on the front of the trailer...... behind the cab...
