I hate tilly/beanie hats and I hate baseball caps even more.

How about a bush hat (Akubra come to mind) or a panama. You can get panamas chepaer than £50 and they are foldable.

I have Buff's but mainly for on the motorbike as neck tube until i get to destination or iff very short hair on the noggin so i dont stick to the helmet lining.

I did use to use a baseball cap and, when not doing photography, that would still be my preference, but for photography the peak is a real PITA and reversing the cap is, well.........
