is this equipment? summer is here and when your out about photographing on a blistering sunny hot day...whats the best hat... I dont fancy a back to front baseball cap.. but anything else gets in the way of the camera :( any alternatives... a hat to keep the sun off a bald head and not impede on the camera?

its not for me your understand.. Just asking for a friend :)

I've got one of these for when I go to Africa in a few weeks, I've got a big bald spot on the top :)

..without the rest of the chavvy attire though obviously. I'd have bought a baseball cap but the "one size fits all" sizes of them are too small for my head.

I have tried all manner of hats but they do tend to touch the top of the camera..its a serious problem for baldies who dont want to look like a chav and dont want burning :)

how about a toupe?

:)

Whilst being far from bald I tend to get a headache if I spend too long in the sun so when shooting the polo on Sunday wore a largish floppy hat, had no problems with it touching the camera. Previously I have worn a cowboy shaped straw hat with no problems. The only downside is if you take the camera from around your neck it is easiest to remove the hat first

A fez. Stylish in an eccentric kind of way, especially when worn with a brocade smoking jacket. Nobody will assume you are a chav........ A raving lunatic maybe, but not a chav.

hubby is bald and wears a beanie (wool) in winter and a light weight one Cotton in the summer...but i can see you problem...loads of sun cream may also help.. but if you are out side for long i would go fo one of the above

Haa... i wasnt aware you could get cotton beanie hats ? presuming thats what you mean?

Sun cream yes.. but I quite often get caught unaware.. dull day turns to sunny day and i dont fancy a bottle of sun cream spilling out into the camera bag :)

I'm a long time baldy, my latest hat is a ranger style desert camouflage ( very handy in the highlands ) from tesco, cost a fiver I think. It has an all round rim which is good and it's not too wide so doesn't affect the camera.

I suffer from a similar problem and I use THESE. They're brilliant and can be worn in different ways.

Thats briliant and as I watched the demo I was thinking about those cold winter tuesday nights sat pitchside freezing and wondering what the hell I am doing there... would be great for that :)

Yes, they do a Thermal one for the winter. Maybe we should persuade Mracel and Co to get some TP ones done. :D

I use a baseball cap & turn it backwards if neccessary.

I may look a bit **** but who cares :D

I never bother with a hat but I really should think about wearing one to stop getting burnt when the sun is out.

100% agree with Fabs, its a buff for me too. Get a UV one and you can use it to cover your head and neck at the same time and there's no peak to get in the way of the camera. Top bit of kit and it fits into a very small pocket as well.

I wish I could say I see enough sun to worry about getting burnt.

i've been fully bald (well i shaved off what was left about 14 years ago) for a while & i just use some sunblock
you don't need to go massively high factor as if its that hot your sweat will wash it away anyway so just re apply every 3 or 4 hours

the stuff i use also has an insect repellant which is nice

just remembered somebody once lent me a spray when i was caught out without any which said scalp sunblock or similar on the bottle & was about SPF30 or something! he bottle was also small enough for a pocket

I got one of THESE from Winfields, so not too far away from you either.

Around £8 or £9 or so. It works fine. I like to think I've still got a bit of hair left... unfortunately I really know about it if I'm out in the sun too long, so I obviously haven't got that much!

cheers

yeagh have one simmilar bill but i find it does come down a bit too far over the eyes for photography... hmmmm and yeagh winfields is a 10 minute drive away :)

how about a toupe?

:)

i was gonna suggest a syrup too!
but then again, think of Elton John (great though he is), with all his money he cant find one that looks good, can he?
get the factor 50 cream out:nuts:
