Question about internal flights and connections

Looking to book an internal flight in the US. Orlando to Charleston, but there are no direct flights so need to go to Atlanta and change (reverse process for return). How much time should you allow (as preferred flight gives you a 35min stopover which I think is far too short). Obviously want to minimise on airport wait time, no hold luggage which should speed things up.

I've switched flights in the USA with a lot less than 35 mins to play with. Never missed one yet.

I reckon that the absence of hold luggage will make a big difference to the changeover time, but it may also depend if it is the same airline for both flights if time gets really tight.

I have missed connections in the USA with longer stopovers and made connections with shorter ones (and with checked baggage in those cases); it's not an exact science. Even when I've missed flights though, I've never had a problem getting the airline to put me on the next flight.

Assuming that your transfer is a protected one, which it sounds like it is, I would just go for it. If it is an unprotected transfer or you need to change to a different airline, then I would probably reconsider.

Have you looked to see if there are direct flights to Myrtle Beach from Orlando, which is also in South Carolina and not too far from Charleston (as distances in the USA go anyway)?
