I've been sent a NIP regarding a speeding offence on a road in Runcorn, Cheshire. A557 Widnes eastern bypass, Runcorn to be precise.

I wrote to them asking exactly where the camera was placed as I had not seen one down there.

They wrote back with a letter saying the camera was specifically placed in the Layby on the A57 Liverpool Road, 110 metres east of Laburnam lane.

Now, both these roads exist (A57 and A557), but they are in 2 seperate places, and a couple of miles apart.

Where do I stand here ?

They have sent me a photo of my car as caught by the camera, but are claiming the offence took place in 2 seperate places ?

Can anyone advise please..

Where were you caught? On the A57 or the A557?

If its on the road on the NIP, you're stuck.
If the NIP is incorrent, then you *may* have a case...I have no idea though.

If the NIP is incorrect you may get away with it.
They will then send you a correct NIP :(

Well I dont really know ?

I was on the A557 that day, but not on the A57.

Its a bit wierd that the location I wasnt at (A57 near Laburnum Lane) is a bit specific by them.

I'll prolly end up paying the fine etc, but just wondered if there was anyway I could wriggle out of it. :D

I'm always a considerate driver even though I do step over the speed limit every now and then. Dont we all ?

If you were caught you were caught, unless you have a s*** load of money to
throw at it you might as well pay up. Justice, or simply getting away with it
costs a fortune and is really only available to the well off...

well if i was you i would take the points and pay the fine as they have eveidence to show you are speeding and if you appeal against it and go to court they will simply look at the pic that clearly shows you are speeding and give you a bigger bill.

I was caught doing 90 on the motorway about 7-8 years ago and had to go too court and the pic they had was all they needed and didnt even have too say where the offence took place apart from the speed limit of the road i was on (i got 5 points and a £90 fine) which wasnt too bad as i was doing alot faster when i saw them then when they saw me.

as for the 557 can you not see where abouts it might be from the pic they sent ? hope it wasnt the fixed camera on the run down to the motorway junction ?

Im from Runcorn and can't place where you mean, Laburnam lane ? They used to sit infront of the speed camera heading towards the bridge on the expresway.

Steve.

I didnt have a specific time to be anywhere in particular.

Without wanting to start an argument, I'm not suggesting speeding is OK, just that I stepped over the limit on this occasion, as I suspect a lot of people do.

Anyway, I've accepted the consequences and sent the form back.

Humph .....

I dont know where it was either fella.

Laburnum Lane is in Great Sankey, I know it well.

I was nowhere near that road on that day.

Have you seen the picture? Is it a picture of the front or rear of the car?

On the NIP (which would have arrived in the post) does it state A557 or A57?

As said above - if the NIP is incorrect (check all the details, date, time, your reg number, your name) then you could get it thrown out on a technicality.
