Query regarding slave lights

If a slave light features a infra-red receiver as i believe most do these days(?), is it still required to be fixed onto a separate receiver in order to work or does the built-in infra-red receiver pick up the signal directly from the transmitter on your camera hotshoe without the need for a separate receiver?

I'm not sure that I understand your question.

If you're asking whether the built in infra red receiver is all you need, then the answer is yes, in theory.

It is however old technology that isn't a patch on radio triggering. It requires (more or less) line of sight, has a short range and is fairly unreliable.
