Quality on upload

Don't know if this is the right forum

I use the forum's gallery facility to upload photos for use on TP but I consistently get image problems. The full image may be of good quality but by the time I have reduced it to the 200Kb max for uopload I end up with a soft image.
I tend to use Elements 8 and 'Save for Web' as jpeg - should I be doing things differently to present my images in a better way on the forum?

No, I haven't been doing any processing after resizing ... I'll give that a try, thanks.

You could try Easy Thumbnails.

It can do quite a lot and can reduce your files in size with virtually no loss in sharpness:
