So my quadra arrived today - great piece of kit and it is the newer RX version....

So how easiest to mate it with anything with an 8mm shaft ....

Easy

Get one of these (I already had them for SB-900) and use a spigot in the quadra and screw to the bracket ...

oooh Fab Simon, review time? :)

Well I only had the dog to help today .... and he wasn't feeling charitable :)

But as sunny as it was I did manage a few shots to see if I could drop the ambient right down

The kit itself is tiny and very well made .. I had the larger reflector with the grids - but haven't had chance to use them

These were 3 quick shots before said mdel legged it inside and wouldn't come back out

The grids will hopefully give me a tighter light pattern - but I was surprised that the light with the standard reflector wasn't really harsh

Now that shows a lot of promise Simon. (Which is probably more that you can say for your model lol) Very simple yet effective test. Thanks for taking the time to post it.

I don't care about the Quadra... I want your Newfie! :D

Joking aside, that kit looks very cool... It's certainly something I've been looking into for a while now. I'll be interested to see how you get on with it.

In the meantime, you're more than welcome to send the dog over to me! ;)
Take care,
Si

I'll try and get some grid shots etc on a live person ....

Oh and Si - he would have you wrapped round his little finger if he had one .....

Hehe... I've never met a Newfoundland that couldn't! ;)

If I didn't already have the worlds most intelligent blonde (Golden Retriever), I'd have a Newfie like a shot! They're wonderful dogs. :)

Have fun with the Quadra's.
Best wishes,
Si

Very nice Simon, an interesting little piece of kit that I look forward to hearing a lot more of your thoughts about in due course... I'm on the hunt for the perfect portable system at the moment

Handsome looking fella! the effect is very cool indeed, but what does A and B mean?

Does he like to get on your lap infront of the TV LOL...

it refers to the output selection... I believe the quadra has two flash duration settings A and B, one bing not so fast and the other being damn fast LOL. I'm sure Simon can elaborate better ;)

yep A allows full power down to 20+ watts and B 1/3 power down to 8 watts

Excellent bit of modification

Just out of interest, what's the newer RX version?

P.s I think you can now get a ringflash for the Quadra Too :)

Correct

brighter LEDs etc, see website. The RX digital 1200 is looking nice for me at the moment ;) especially with a head at £100 + vat at the moment instead of about £500+

I've a wedding Saturday so will give them a run in the real world and let you know the differences if any

Plenty powerful enough to overpower the sun by the looks of it..

What lights were you using before Simon?

Do you think you're going to miss the ITTL function?

I was looking at these lights in The Flash Centre a couple of weeks back.. very nice..

I'll still use both I suspect ... the quadra for more relaxed session time and the SB-900 for when time is a premium

First real shoot completed last Saturday - worked well but still plenty to iron out

Didn't get chance to test the daylight balanced modelling lamp - hopefully in the near future

from TFC, when you buy a ranger pack, you can add a head for £100+vat. it's in smallish text at the bottom of the page.

Was that on their webpage? (Can you post a link if so please) as i cant even see the Ranger pack, only see the Quadra pack..

Or was it on an add?
