But what puzzles me is that it's so... odd :D and there's no request for me to receive £150,000,000 on behalf of someone in Nigeria so I don't see the point :D

I think the random text is intended to bypass spam filters by not conforming to recognised patterns. Presumably there was a link or attachment in the mail? Probably hoping that you'd click to find out what on earth it's on about.
 
If you did reply, the sender would know that your address is active and would then target you with something more nasty.....

It's actually called "it has a population of 974."

Can't see an attachment or a link though. Either these people are very sneaky or just mad as hatters.
 
I've had a few mental emails lately, includung a few completely empty ones addressed to admin@myURL.co.uk

They go in the bin, but I can't even see what possible use they could be to the sender.

I check my junk folder quite regularly as some bank and utility stuff ends up in there.

I'm pretty sure there are criminal master minds at work but sometimes I do wonder what they're doing and how :D

See a lot like this binned on my wordpress site. Must be something to do with ping backs
 
It could be that your system, ISP, or some mail relay between you and the sender stripped out any malware it contained before it got to you?

Ah, another good explanation.

So the consensus is that it's from a criminal master mind rather than some poor individual in need of intensive counselling?
 
Non-active emails get returned to sender.
If they don't get a return they know the email is valid.
They then sell active email lists on...
 
There was a habit of spam emails having a passage of text from an ebook (punctuation removed making it very hard to read), the latest pattern, as above, will be various bits of text scraped from a webpage.

If you google each individual line you'll see where they come from, although how the combinations are made I'm certain I'll never know, but I suspect wikipedia snowballing:
