I think you are probably better seeking ex-client thoughts and recommendations than asking in open forum

Besides who knows ... :suspect: ... the subject may even be a member here and we wouldn't want any embarrassment would we ...

Just my thoughts on it ... ;)

:p

Those ducks are superb

One of the 'example' shots had me mesmorised for ages  ... Sure the peeps around thought I'd finally lost the plot

to be fair, it best to ask the bride and groom to look, and if they happy, then thats all that matters. are the photos on his site edited, or does he edit to suit? (or not at all)

Okay, I understand that he may be a member here and it's perhaps below the belt. But at the end of the day, we can all look at a photo and comment on them.

Based on the "Recent Photos" gallary he has (why only 1 gallary BTW?) and the choice of photo he has used as the "entry photo" to the Gallary, I would seriously consider looking elsewhere.

£850 is a lot of lolly. The guy can take better photos than me, but I'm not charging nearly a grand for half a days work!!! :) I would not be happy if I forked out that money for the quality of the ones in his "recent photos" gallary. Not even remotely happy.

Gary.
PS - I apologise if you are the photographer and read this! I just think I have seen far better quality around that price, I am married 6 months now and remember the search for a tog very well indeed.

Perhaps if one of the pro wedding togs came here to offer some critique, would be more useful than a noob trying to bash this guy. My view as an amateur, he has used far too harsh lighting in his bright ones, and the dark ones appear way under exposed. Also, the scenes are a mess, there are no lovely portraits with background blur, no atmosphere. very similar to the crap I took recently at a 40th Wedding anniversary. That was a freebie and we had not planned to take photos. I took my camera and it snowballed into a unofficial photo shoot.

from what i remember looking for wedding togs 2 years ago, he is quite cheap, but it depends what your after, i was after more than the 1 album on his site shows, and mostly agree with gary above, but if the bride and groom like the pics on his site, then thats alll that matters

I said this on another site recently, don't judge a wedding tog by the website go and meet them and see the quality of the printed work as that is what you after not some small shots on the internet.

Sadly picking a wedding Photographer gets harder every day it's to easy and obviously far to tempting for people who have had a 400D for a week to set themselves up as wedding togs and charge far to much for amature results. I have seen some truly shocking examples at weddings I've attended and also some outstanding individuals whos skills have justified the cost with genuinly beautifull and creative results. I'd look for a personal recomendation from someone who has used the photographer for a wedding 9 times out of ten people will only recomend someone they were very happy with.

Surely in todays day and age, a web site is just as important as the printed work in terms of marketing? Fine, you may not be able to see as much detail or get the same feel, but I bet you can spot a stinker of an image a mile off!!!

There is only so much PRINTING can do to improve an image.

Surely where printing really comes into its own is showing you how the REALLY GOOD images on a site, SHINE in print form?

Again, comments, pinch of salt please!! (Noob alert :D)

My 2p then...

If your website doesn't show at least good images - and you've picked them to show-off remember - then either you're daft or not much cop

Here, this chap's web images are at best okay snaps, pretty much like any half-decent snapper here can take

I don't think his charges are especially cheap nor are they high - altogether, a Grade C

Although I don't support flaming and being mean for the heck of it, aren't pros supposed to be subjected to criticism? Regardless of whether or not he's a member here, it's a fair question to ask people for opinions on his work. That's like saying, you shouldn't submit online reviews of product A or B because you're scared you might hurt the manufacturer's feelings.

As a disclaimer: I'm not a pro, nor am I much aquainted with wedding photography. But I agree with the above reviewer.

The pictures in his portfolio are dull, and almost everything is center-composed. I think most people here can do better and charge less.

One of my English friends told me a review of a wedding photographer here:

“We first discovered Rob’s work at Darryl and Siobhan’s wedding, when a selection from the day were shown in the evening, for once we were speechless, the images blew us away, they were so unusual. All too often one wedding looks exactly the same as the next, with hours of stiff, boring photo calls to match. Rob captures the atmosphere and emotion of the occasion beautifully, his attention to detail is unique and his relaxed, honest, candid style suited us perfectly……he wasn’t available on our original wedding date, so we changed it and you can see why!” - Cheryl and Pascal

Bride and Groom changing their wedding date so they could have the photographer? Unheard of. A real testament to the photographer’s skills.

Check out some of his shots here.

Of course, we can't expect all photographers to be of equal skill. But I just don't see anything special about the one you posted.

I'm so glad i'm not on my own here, having looked at the photos i would say a couple of the wedding are ok, but as for the latest one's where the bride is getting ready i have to be honest and say there diabolical to the point of being tacky, particularly the knickers laid out on a quilt, i think to take photos of brides getting ready would aquire quite a bit of skill ie good close up shots, reflections in mirrors, good bokeh, you know the sort of thing i'm talking about, from what i've seen on this persons website, there just basically snapshots of the worst kind, sorry but i have to be honest :shake:

OK - straight opinion. He's not a pro. He's an Amateur tog trying to get into the game. There are WAY too many shots on those links. A pro would have a proper website not be using a photobox pro-gallery. He's not been selective about choosing his shots for show on the site in the way that a pro would have been. Some of the shots without eye contact are nothing more than snaps.

Honest opinion? If it were my wedding, I wouldn't be using him.

I agree with the last post. I am no wedding photographer by far but looking at the latest one`s if i had paid that kind of money out for them photo`s (snapshots) i would be gutted. i saw one photo with a bottle of Nurofen (WHY?!) i think i needed them looking at them photo`s. My partner said if the photorapher came to her with those photos, she would slap him and be mortified she had nothing decent to show for her most important day of her life. sorry for being so blunt but thats my opinion:thumbsdown::bang:

at a very quick glance ,some, of the work looks erm well just about ok. i realy dont like the composition of most shots. a foot or two either way would make all the difference.some shots are erm interesting.
we wouldnt use (or produce for that matter ) shots of that standard.
his prices are reasonable.ish.
but personaly, i would advise them to visit the tog themselves, if he,s being considered.
make dam sure to have a real good look at his portfolio. if you arent 100% happy with him , or his work, walk away.
i tend to agree with other peoples comments about being an am, not a pro.
oh, and my mrs is a pro wedding tog.i,m assistant and second shooter.so i have some idea what i,m talking about. for a change:D

why didnt they just give all the family and bridesmades a disposable camera?? I am no wedding photograher, thats why i dont take any money for what i enjoy

Ive only just seen these, I would be gutted if they were my wedding photos, not good at all. Thats coming from someone who may want a wedding tog in the future, not from a tog POV.
