Put an end to GAS - chop your finger off (now with proof!)

A bit shocking. Very sorry for you. I am optimistic your photography will come back soon.

You have my sympathy, as a cabinet maker using all manner of sharp tools I've trimmed my fingers on a number of occasions, nothing as bad as that though, keep it clean and dry, it'll take a few weeks to mend.

Wow, that does look worse than I first imagined. Had it not been for the fact that one of the top guys in the country had been doing a seminar at the hospital when I cut mine and he managed to stitch them back together. I had 6 bits of bone removed from my 2 fingers and I've ended up with 2 finger nails on one finger as I separated the nail bed. Would of liked to get some pics of mine just for the memory, they do still ache a bit in cold weather though.

In all seriousness, I hope you get better soon. You will soon get used to it feeling different, but take it easy and don't knock it. Good luck.

Holy cow Alan!!! That's awful!!! You poor b****r! I hope it doesn't hurt too much.

And you're right about GAS.....I'm keeping what I have for at least 6 months which for me will be a miracle!

Hope your finger mends soon!

Gear Acquisition Syndrome

Good job you didn't have your nudger in the way. An inch could make all the difference.
;-)

Managed to use the d800 at work on Friday - supporting the body mainly with the left hand and just using the right to press the shutter.

So I must be able to manage the m4/3 gear :)

Does any one else get a funny/wrong feeling in their belly button when you see pics like Andy's chopped finger?
I also get an unpleasant sensation around my bits/groin area when I see some acciedents on 'You've Been Framed' . :gag:

I think this may be due to the release of adrenaline, you're in an unpleasant situation and your body is preparing you for a quick getaway.
Oddly I never got this when I was doing all kinds of surgery, probably because I was in control but my belly button would do somersaults when looking at the results of accidents to other people.

Hope it gets better soon, I know how you feel having just had the top of my right thumb amputated, and am so frustrated that I cant use my kit :) but I do keep looking at what I can buy :(

I actualy paid a surgon to do it , I had a growth which was diagnosed as a cancer, so it was the only option. Just cant wait to have the dressings removed.

Hope you are feeling better soon, must say am impressed you got a few piccies of the appendage :clap:

PS like Neil I want to know if you finished the lawn before going to hospital.

I really hope you get back to normal quickly and aren't in too much pain, One of those threads you think you shouldn't look and then do :) It was worse than I was expecting.

I have a daughter with cerebral palsy, the correct term for her type is spastic dyplegia. You can only imagine the wrong terms some people use for it.

Me Too, know exactly where your coming from

the real question of the thread is - did you wrap it in tissue and gaffa tape and finish mowing the lawn?

:D

I didn't no - was in the hospital for about 25 hours ! And now I think a gardener is the order of the day!

Caught some of the incident on CCTV though

I have GAS pretty bad - so bad that I spend more time obsessing about which camera, system or lens to purchase, than actually taking photos!

Last Saturday I chopped the top third off my finger in the lawn mower (yes I know), this means that for now I am unable to use any of my camera gear and have been struggling to do even day to day functions - should be fine once the stitches have healed etc.

So my camera gear is in the cupboard and I am itching to get out and take some pictures with it.

I guess the point of this post is not to get sympathy, it is only a finger and probably the least important one and it was my own stupid fault, but more to deliver the message that you should make the use of whatever camera equipment you have NOW.

Get out and enjoy your hobby, take some pictures, create some memories, be satisfied with the gear you have.....

....because tomorrow you may not be able to :nono:
