'Afternoon all!

Quick question - has anyone played pushing Vista 400? Basically I'm possibly gonna be in the studio with a band I work with later in the week taking a few photos, I'll be taking the 5D2 (dirty digital, I know) for general stuff and the RB for some static shots but I wouldn't mind doing some fast 35mm stuff too. I'm kind of contemplating grabbing a few rolls of Vista 400 (if I can locate some in Leeds) and pushing it to 1600, has anyone pushed it before or does anyone have any idea what the results are likely to be like? Will it handle being pushed 2 stops?

Thanks in advance! :)

I don't have personal experience, but since it's basically Superia 400, pushing that film should be well documented online?

Take a look for pushed Superia 400 results, after research into what the DXn number corresponds to I identified it as that. See the Agfa Vista Plus 400 thread for details: the number on the film canister corresponds to Superia 400, and also the "edge bars" on the developed film likewise correspond to it.

Sam.

Push it Paul .....I pushed the 200 iso to 1600 with decent results ....even 3200 offered a "usable" result....I don't know for sure what film the 200 is though..superia like the 400 perhaps?? anyone??

There's a thread of mine on here somewhere...I'll link you to it if i find it.

EDIT: Voila here's the link .....not C-41 development though ...I cross processed in b&w chems

I'm sure that I pushed a roll in colour.......On a mission to find the results now :p:D

Its Fuji C200 - a very old film which is sold as a "budget" alternative to Superia, but is much more grainy.

I know it's a different film, but I usually shoot the 200 at 400, it isn't the most fine grained film at box speed anyway but the one stop push hardly makes a difference. It's consumer C-41, it comes with latitude!

Thanks for the comments guys, I couldn't remember what the Vista was supposed to be so didn't really know where to look for what to expect pushing it! :)

@Asha Thanks for the info mate! Do you reckon there's likely to be much difference between 200 pushed to 1600 compared to how 400 would look pushed to 1600?

I would say the 400 will probably do better than the 200 simply because it is a much newer film. Vista 200+/Fuji C200 is a much older film than Superia 400, and comparing similar shots taken with both at box speeds, the 200 is actually much more grainy than the 400. Obviously your also only doing a 2 stop rather than 3 stop push so I would expect better results just from that.

@PMN @s162216 has answered your question much better than i could have lol .....cheers Samuel (y) I agrree that the probability of obtaining better results with the 400 are quite high. I'm interested in how your shots come out...be sure to let us know.

To be honest Nick they look pretty good to me, at least for what I'm doing tonight. I'll be in a darkish studio, clean images are going to be the last thing I want so a decent chunk of grain and general grittiness is probably going to work well! I haven't been able to acquire any 400 so it'll be 200 I'm pushing to 1600, we'll see what happens! :)

Best of luck with that Paul, look forward to seeing the results.
