Purple fringing with purple in the picture

Yes
I took some shots yesterday with my Canon 85/1.2. I am very happy with the look of the shots but the purple fringing with this lens is driving me mad. I know I could avoid high contrast situations and minimise fringing but I seem prone to shooting in just these kind of places.

So I tried the chromatic aberration sliders in lightroom but that had no impact (PF is the wrong kind of CA I understand). I know I can try to take purple out of the image with HSL or color sliders. But the subject's coat changes colour when I do that (it has dark blues and reds in it).

Is there another way to correct for purple fringing?

And on a side note, are Sigma 85/1.4 lenses just as prone to PF as I am considering swapping?

Cheers Mark, I'll go take a look. I've seen others remark about a similar tool in Aperture. I will have a look at Lightroom 4 to see if anything relevant has been added.

In the lens correction in LR3 there is a defringe pulldown. Did you try that?

Hi Andy,

Yes but again I couldn't see much effect. It certainly didn't get rid of the problem.

I am wondering what I am doing wrong because there are so many posts saying that purple fringing is so easy to get rid of. I've had other owners of the 85/1.2 look at my shots and they say it isn't an extreme example. Although I know I tend to shoot in situations where it is likely to happen.

Ian
