Pure White Background Nikon D3200

Hi All,

I am loooking for guidance. New to all this and need some images of spectacles for a website. They must have a white background.

I have tried using gimp to alter the background but even this is not working for me.

Open to suggestions as to how to achieve this.

Hi and welcome to TP

It might help if you explain what your setup up is, how you are lighting it, whether you are taking pictures in RAW, (and though I know nothing of Gimp) just what you have tried in post processing that as you put "is not working..."

An insight into where you are coming from and what techniques you have a tried should inform replies.

I'm guessing, but based on the fact you named the camera model and the editing software, you haven't got round to thinking about lighting yet.

SImple maths (not simple if you hadn't realised) says if you want a well exposed subject and a white background - the background requires it's own lighting. If your subject is small (a teacup) you can do it on a tabletop with some very cheap lights. If your subject is big (adult human) you need a lot of space (think 20 feet for full length portrait) to do it properly.

Can you link to a sample of the quality of results you're after?

Lighting specs is tricky - lots of different curved reflective surfaces.
Lighting a white background well is differently tricky.

I'd suggest using someone like https://www.theclippingpath.com/ or http://clipping-path-asia.com/ to cut them out but for the fact that you'll probably need to show some details through the lenses too - so you're left with no real choice but to nail the lighting.

You can get reasonable but uninspired results with a pop-up lighting tent but if you pop over to https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/talk-lighting-and-studio.53/ you'll get a lot more detailed advice.

I missed the mention of the subject (idiot), reflections on curved surfaces is a tricky one. The good news is that creation of a white BG for something so small is the easy part.
